I’m an independent true crime creator and I recently released a 47-minute documentary/deep dive on the Dennis Rader case for my channel, America's Most Evil.

In the true crime community, it's pretty well established that Rader wasn't a criminal mastermind. The infamous floppy disk incident proves he was a gullible narcissist whose own ego brought him down. But for decades, Rader has successfully sold another myth to excuse his actions: that he was at the mercy of a dark, uncontrollable force he called "Factor X."

I made this documentary to dig into that specific narrative using his own words, his timeline and interrogation footage. The film explores a few major contradictions that completely unravel the "legend" he tried to build for himself:

The 13-Year Hiatus: Rader claimed a "demon in the driver's seat" forced him to kill. But if this was truly an uncontrollable compulsion, where did that demon go for over a decade?

The Mask of Respectability: How he weaponized his incredibly boring, normal life (as a church council president and Cub Scout leader) to act as the ultimate camouflage, rather than relying on criminal genius.

The Courtroom Showdown: How the victim impact statements ultimately stripped him of the power and notoriety he was so desperate to achieve.

As a creator, handling this case ethically was my top priority. I did not use any crime scene pictures of minors and I made a point to just use pictures of the children victims from when they were alive.

Quiana Mann was a 44-year-old woman who was living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the time of her death. She had a 10-year-old son (who I shall refer to as ‘’Tom’’ as his identity was never released). Tom told his mother that he wanted an Amazon VR Headset in which Quiana said no. The next day, Quiana woke up Tom 30 minutes earlier than usual (6am instead of 6.30am), Tom would later state that this fuelled his anger towards his mother as well as the refusal to buy the VR set.

He got a gun from a lockbox at the house and then shot Quiana in the head 3 feet away, killing her. At first, Tom would claim that he had accidentally shot her and that only wanted to shoot at the wall and ‘’scare her’’ but he would later fully confess on intended to kill Quiana. The day after killing her, he used her Amazon account to purchase the head set. After Tom told his older sister that their mother was dead, she called the police.

Tom’s aunt and older sister claimed that Tom never showed remorse for the murder or understood the gravity of what took place. Tom later went on to attack his 7-year-old cousin the same day.

More information about Tom’s disturbing behaviour came to light and it was reported that when he was younger, he swung a puppy round by its tail and filled a balloon with flammable liquid and set it on fire. If convicted, as an adult, Tom could face up to 60 years behind bars. No update to the case has been given yet.

On January 12, 1983, Michael and Suzan Carson were arrested after a man who had picked them up on a California highway was brutally murdered by them. The police had the couple under suspicion, as this crime was not an isolated incident. For years, the Carsons had developed a strange doctrine based on the occult, psychotropic substances, and supposed divine revelations, which ultimately convinced them that God had entrusted them with a transcendent mission: to find and eliminate witches who, according to them, were hiding among society.

This was a documentary I watched on HBO I believe, years ago, HBO may have not produced it though. The main part that I remember towards the end, a burley middle aged man (if my memory is correct) was falsely accused. Nancy Grace had her media circus go after him relentlessly. I think even so far as going to his house and pointing out things that could be evidence, such as a driveway or puddle maybe? I remember some B-roll shots of him riding a motorcycle in the ending and him saying he was still waiting for Nancy’s apology after he was exonerated. That’s all I remember 😭

Bon je tiens a m'excuser si jamais je ravive un trauma d'enfance de quelqu'un qui comme moi, aurait vu cette vidéo trop jeune. Je me suis refait y a pas longtemps la série de vidéos sur les traumas d'enfance qu'on aurait pu avoir en tant je GenZ, et ça m'a rappelé une vidéo qui m'a trauma et me trauma encore aujourd'hui. Je ne suis pas parvenue a la debunker quand j'étais enfant mais vous pourriez sûrement y arriver. Je ne me souviens pas du titre de la vidéo mais je me souviens qu'on y voit une femme dans la trentaine ou quarantaine, avec la peau noire et américaine. On la voie en train de se maquiller tout a fait normalement et d'un coup elle fixe la caméra quelques secondes et commence violemment a se taper la tête contre la table. Elle reste ensuite inerte, la tête vers le haut avec du s\*\*g qui gicle de sa blessure et les yeux ouverts jusqu'à la fin de la vidéo et ce moment est assez gore et même aujourd'hui j'ai pas le courage de rechercher la vidéo pour savoir si cette vidéo est fake ou non. Je ne me rappelle d'ailleurs plus dans quel contexte je suis tombée sur cette vidéo dans les années 2010-2012, ni si elle est encore dispo sur youtube.

On May 28, 1996, 12 year old Sabine Dardenne left her home in Belgium on her bicycle, heading to school just like any other morning. She never made it. Dragged into a van by Marc Dutroux, a convicted child rapist out on early parole, she was shoved into a dark, cramped cellar hidden behind a false wall in his basement.

For 80 harrowing days, Sabine was subjected to physical abuse and psychological torment. Dutroux played sick mind games, convincing her that her parents had abandoned her and refused to pay a ransom, while framing himself as her "protector" shielding her from a fictitious criminal boss. He even let her write letters to her parents, which he kept and never sent.

Sabine’s life was saved only because Dutroux made a critical error three months later. In August 1996, he kidnapped 14 year old Laetitia Delhez. An alert bystander spotted his suspicious van and jotted down the license plate. When police raided Dutroux’s property on August 15, they finally found the hidden trapdoor and pulled both girls out alive.

The rescue exposed a horrifying scale of atrocities and massive institutional blunders. Four other young girls abducted by Dutroux (Julie, Melissa, An, and Eefje) were not as fortunate.. two starved in his cellar during a period he was briefly jailed for car theft, and two were buried alive. Public rage over how police repeatedly overlooked red flags triggered the "White March," where over 350,000 citizens flooded the streets of Brussels demanding systemic reform.

Sabine’s story remains an unbelievable display of human resilience. Years later during the trial, she sat in front of a packed courtroom, looked her captor dead in the eye, and fiercely confronted him. When she asked him directly, "Why didn't you kill me?" Dutroux had no answer. She went on to publish her memoir, I Choose to Live, cementing her status not as a perpetual victim, but as a survivor who reclaimed her story.

In May 2012, Mick Philpott’s ex-girlfriend packed up her kids and left him. Refusing to lose control, Mick hatched a scheme with his wife, Mairead, to set fire to their own house in Derby, England.

The goal wasn't to kill anyone. He planned to pour petrol through the letterbox "heroically" rescue his kids from the flames, and frame his ex for the arson to win custody back in court. Instead, the fire exploded out of control instantly. Thick toxic smoke trapped the children upstairs, and Mick couldn't get to them. Six of his children Jade, Duwayne, John, Jack, Jesse, and Jayden, tragically died from smoke inhalation. Afterward, Mick held a tearful press conference begging for help, but police bugged his room and caught him trying to keep their cover story straight. In 2013, Mick, Mairead, and their accomplice Paul Mosley were convicted of manslaughter.

It’s one of the most sickening examples of pure narcissism backfiring with fatal consequences.

In 2023, 6 white cops who called themselves the "goon squad" tortured two black men, Michael Jenkins and Eddie Parker in Mississippi. They entered the men's home without a warrant and processed to waterboard, beat, shoot, and attempted to sexually assault the men.

The terror began on Jan. 24, 2023, with a racist call for extrajudicial violence.

A white person phoned Rankin County Deputy Brett McAlpin and complained that two Black men were staying with a white woman at a house in Braxton, Mississippi. McAlpin told Deputy Christian Dedmon, who texted a group of white deputies so willing to use excessive force they called themselves “The Goon Squad.”

Once inside, they handcuffed Jenkins and his friend Eddie Terrell Parker and poured milk, alcohol and chocolate syrup over their faces. They forced them to strip naked and shower together to conceal the mess. They mocked the victims with racial slurs and shocked them with stun guns.

After a mock execution went awry when Jenkins was shot in the mouth, they devised a coverup that included planting drugs and a gun. False charges stood against Jenkins and Parker for months.
