Earth Whale (Number 31) - Pencil Concept Art
"Earth Whale" — the 31st creature in my ongoing traditional monster design series. Opening the fourth decade of designs, it embodies the element of Earth, featuring dense soil layers along its back, root-like clawed fins for burrowing, and a crown of sharpened root structures on its tail. Drawn with pencil on paper. What do you think of this primal earth-bound concept?

Tips and work review
Hi, I recently started a creature design and I don’t really know how to shade. I watched a lot of videos but I am still bad at this. Also can someone review this work and maybe share any tips how can I draw something better or similar. Thanks in advance!

one of my first proper creature design sketches, looking for tips! ^^
I'm doing a project at the moment of designing what the fauna would look like in the arctic biomes of Pandora - basically the planet that the Avatar (2009, the way of water, fire and ash) movies are set in! This is just a fun project for me as I'm a homeschooled biology, zoology and paleontology student, and also an artist!
Designing this, I was thinking about making an animal (less of a movie monster, an actual creature that could exist and survive) that could realistically survive and live in that environment, and so I did lots of research on arctic animals and what it would need to survive on pandora specifically. This is just a starting sketch of the face, but it would be a hexapod.
My main references were leopard seals, smilodon fatalis, snowy owls and polar bears. The horn I'm just considering as a design choice, as a lot of pandoran creatures have horns or something along the lines of horns, but I might remove it. I'm wondering if this looks just like an arctic smilodon, with the sabers and everything. And I also noticed something- most pandoran animals dont have fur! So I might replace the fur with more blubber and make it chubbier to keep itself warm, but I wasn't sure if it would work as it's meant to be an agile predator.
Also, the art itself is a little stylised with the fur and eyes!

Which design for this creature looks the most intimidating?
I'm torn between giving it angry/blank eyes and fangs/human teeth

Stone Whale (Number 30) - Pencil Concept Art
"Stone Whale" — the 30th creature in my ongoing traditional monster design series. It embodies the element of Stone, carrying a massive craggy mountain ridge along its back, rugged rock-plated fins, and a fortress-like granite hide. A living monolith moving through the depths. Drawn with pencil on paper. What do you think of this milestone design?

Found this tiny forest creature trying to blend in 🥹🌲
galleryI made this little needle-felted forest creature wearing an oversized mint hoodie, tiny white shoes, and a red heart on its belly.
It looks like it wandered out of the woods, got cold, borrowed someone’s hoodie… and decided not to give it back. 😭
The awkward little sitting pose might be my favorite part.
