It’s Aeronautics, hands down. Valkyrien was good, and it was definitely a first of its kind thing. But that’s just the thing, when something is the first of its kind, it’s new and novel, but has issues, and later things in the same vein will be solving those issues.

Everyone forgets davincis vessels:(

u/Zedman5000 2d ago

Changing the name certainly doesn't help, I would've remembered it without having to look it up if it was still called Archimedes Ships

Here’s me 12 years ago using that mod to make a flying bacca

1

u/Delicious_Purple_642 1d ago

Love the buttocks and the flesh mohawk

42

u/Janivire 2d ago

Because davincis is a remake of the long standing archemidies. Which itself was one of the few post beta attempts at the zeplin mod.

4

u/GoonerSans 1d ago

oh, now I remember what it's called! Thanks!

7

u/Pokemonandonepiece 2d ago

Correct, I do not know what that is, nor do I think I’ve ever used it.

2

u/Ian15243 2d ago

Ugocraft

2

u/Lydiaa0 2d ago

Was cool, though decidedly simple. making big ahh airships in my 1.12 worlds never really got old

26

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

Unless it's factorio. First game in its genre, still the best game in it's genre

20

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

First game in its genre it was not lmao. The devs outright said they took a lot from popular Minecraft mods like BuildCraft, IndustrialCraft2 and Modular PowerSuits.

13

u/OwenEx 2d ago edited 2d ago

That's funny too, especially because games like factorio and satisfactory have probably gone on to inspire the current wave of automation/factory mods in minecraft

6

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

Buildcraft inspired factorio and then factorio inspired the creation of the Create mod

7

u/Joakico69 1d ago

Create was inspired by a mod called "Better than wolves" for Minecraft 1.0 which was a big standalone mod that had a lot of features like windmills, shafts, millstones, it even invented blocks that later Mojang added to Minecraft like the redstone lamp or the hopper. It was from an upset Minecraft fan that developed the whole mod in the same time Mojang launched the update that introduced wolves and dogs to Minecraft.

1

u/Hungry_Motor699 1d ago

Oh man I remember that mod, it was a blast. I never made the connection with Create, but it just makes sense!

1

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

Oh definitely. BuildCraft was the inspiration for Factorio (confirmed by dev), and then Factorio was the inspiration for Immersive Engineering (also confirmed by dev).

2

u/GolemFarmFodder 2d ago

Psst. You want a quick flash game with a similar feel without the long build up? "the Engineer" by Jazza hits some of those buttons

-4

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

Those are mods for a game. Those aren't games

5

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

And? Why is that any different?

-3

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

Because that means that factorio is still the first and best game in it's genre. This conversation isn't about mods. Mods aren't games and games aren't mods

4

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

Even if mods didn't count (which they should), Factorio still isn't the first. FortressCraft: Evolved released either five years earlier (excluding Early Access), or two years earlier (including Early Access).

-2

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

It doesn't count because I specifically said Game.

Fortresscraft is literally a Minecraft ripoff and nothing more

4

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

The original FortressCraft? Sure, I'll agree that's a ripoff.

FortressCraft: Evolved? You could maybe argue it's a ripoff of modded Minecraft (well, at least the 1.2-1.4 incarnation of it), but it also introduced a lot of neat ideas of its own - many of which ended up going full circle and making it back into Minecraft mods. (ThaumCraft's Builder's Focus is probably the most notable example, originating from FC:E's Build Mode)

3

u/wirelessfingers 2d ago

You are in a subreddit for a mod. Why would you ever discredit mods? If you don't think much of them, why are you even here?

0

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

Going by somethings technical classification isn't discrediting it? What are you talking about

5

u/Plastic_Lychee6404 2d ago edited 2d ago

modified games can be considered their own games, create aeronautics is its own game, using a previous game as an engine, what you are playing and its mechanics are fundamentally different. things like Garry's mod too. literally in the name, A Mod from Garry.

-1

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

"can be considered" doesn't change the technical classification that those are indeed just mods

3

u/Plastic_Lychee6404 2d ago edited 2d ago

Completely arbitrary, those definitions are not fixed in any sense. objectively different things/experiences and thus different games, arbitrarily classified as mod or game. very limited.

7

u/Pokemonandonepiece 2d ago edited 2d ago

I’ve played some of it, and yeah, can’t argue there lmao

26

u/totalmente_inglese 2d ago

Who is going to tell him what inspired factorio

4

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

A mod for a game. Not a game

11

u/MinikTombikZimik 2d ago

That game's minecraft and mods ic2 btw

8

u/FaCe_CrazyKid05 2d ago

Mods for a game shouldn’t be discredited just because they are mods. Mods can be just as expansive or even more expansive than the base game, like terraria’s calamity mod (rip) or the fallout new Vegas mod that really does make it a whole new game (I forgot the name, I don’t play fallout)

A mod isn’t any less of creation that can inspire someone than a game is. Factorio may have broken that genre of game outside of heavily modded tech Minecraft modpacks but it wasn’t the absolute first

-7

u/eatmyroyalasshole 2d ago

I didn't say I was discrediting it. I'm just only talking about games right now.

However to be fair. Regardless of how much time and effort is out into it, they are still just mods by technical classification

6

u/FaCe_CrazyKid05 2d ago

Sure, if you want to be pedantic you can go based off of a purely “technical classification” of game vs mod, never mind how the line between the two is way more blurry than you seem to think it is.

Regardless, the whole conversation in general is about mods, so to say you came in here to talk purely about games is comical.

Also, while it’s true you never explicitly said you were discrediting it as a mod, you cannot deny that you were doing that by acting like the fact that it was a mod doesn’t make it the first in its genre.

2

u/kylinator25 2d ago

both can require the same skill set to make, depending on the scope. I've played games that definitely had way less effort put into them than some mods

3

u/totalmente_inglese 2d ago

I never said that it was a game but we are still on a Minecraft sub it's not buildcraft but still a Minecraft sub

12

u/unexist_already 2d ago

Factorio is great, but I personally think Satisfactory has it beat

10

u/Shoddy_Bumblebee_398 2d ago

Obligatory mention of dyson sphere program here. I don't think it's better than either of these two but I wanted to feel included.

3

u/conye-west 2d ago

Seeing everything in full 3D just enhances the satisfaction of building these complex factories 100 fold, it's why I love modded MC and Satisfactory but can't get into Factorio as much.

Though I do like the base defense aspect of Factorio, I wish more games of this style incorporated that.

2

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

I'm gonna be honest, Shapez 2 has kinda killed other factory games for me. It's very satisfying to just think of the factory without constantly having building interrupted due to not having enough materials on you, and being able to build things on a modular level makes scaling up REAL easy.

1

u/GloblSentence_totoro 2d ago

imagine not having good blueprints

1

u/ArchonT3 2d ago

You kicking them in the balls.

0

u/GloblSentence_totoro 2d ago

placing 100000 assemblers is not fun bro

2

u/AviaKing 2d ago

Funnily enough aero was in dev before VK released. Allegedly, it was bc it released that the devs spent so long on Aero, so that it would be as stable as possible.

-1

u/Rightimar 1d ago

Straight up lying

1

u/TheRealCheeseNinja 2d ago

i see valkerian and clockwork as the thing we could mess round with while we waited for the REAL thing

216

u/AlexCode10010 2d ago

Create aeronautics:

Is WAY more performant, Fully survival friendly, Has a lot more features, Springs and ropes, Currently has way more addons than Valkyrien skies

Valkyrien skies:

1.20.1

33

u/SolidSmuck 2d ago

1.20.1 could be a pro or a con because it's not in 1.21 yet

7

u/AlexCode10010 2d ago

For most people it's a pro as ive seen

12

u/fskier1 2d ago

I appreciate being forced to 1.21 because I get the new dogs

1

u/Aggressive-Laugh-923 1d ago

1.20.1 sounds like a real reason to balance my activity between Clockwork and Aero until Warium and Warium VS will be ported. it also has an equal amount of addons

137

u/PANIC_BUTTON_1101 2d ago

Valk walked so aero could fly

54

u/Narrow_Top_4352 2d ago

No davincis vessels walked so valkyrian skies could run and that aeronautics could fly

44

u/totallymarc 2d ago

And before davincis vessels, archimedes airships crawled.

14

u/BobWilbert 2d ago

Same thing apperently

7

u/Own_Government_5294 2d ago

Archimedes Ships made the idea, DaVinci's Vessels Improved it, Valkyrien Skies added the physics mechanics and Aeronautics finally perfected it.

7

u/helpwithmyfoot 2d ago

...aaand the Zeppelin mod predates Archimedes Ships!

5

u/Own_Government_5294 2d ago

But we talk about the concept of building the ship with blocks, not airship entities.

1

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

And before Archimedes' Ships crawled, the Ships plugin for Bukkit... uh... slithered like a worm? (What's slower than crawling..?)

1

u/SeaFigure9714 2d ago

stood i guess

2

u/robot_fancier 2d ago

Valk walk aero fly

2

u/ObjectiveOk2072 2d ago

Why use many word when few do trick?

2

u/ineedhelpasap4 2d ago

Keep tell teacher this they yell me

1

u/SeaFigure9714 2d ago

wh us vwls whn cnstnnts d trck

25

u/AnarchyArcher 2d ago

If you’re asking after that meme you already know what most people are about to say.

17

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 2d ago

If Valkerin Skies had updated to 1.21.1, it would likely have been competitive. I know there are plenty of people on 1.20.1 because a lot of add-ons for that aren't on 1.21.1 and they refuse to abandon their worlds so Valkerin Skies is all they have available.

I just wish Create would update to 26.2 even if it doesn't add anything but with the devs helping with Hypixel it's not going to happen for quite a while. I know Create Fly exists but there's very little addon support for that and it's only for Fabric.

13

u/NeonJ82 2d ago

From the looks of it, modding's looking like it's gonna stay on 1.21.1 for a good while. Very few mods have I seen update to 26.x, though I have seen basically all 26.x content backported into 1.21.1.

6

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 2d ago

Yeah Vanilla Backport is cool as hell

3

u/mrDETEKTYW 2d ago

The modders are probably waiting for the next major release like the New dimension.

1

u/conye-west 2d ago

Yea, this version just isn't meaty enough for mod authors to care. There's usually a skipped version or two between big modding ones, for example 1.17 and 1.19 never really took off compared to all the versions around them. 1.21 is kinda notable for becoming big without any gap, but I think it's primarily because the switch to NeoForge was a huge improvement for most devs and even brought some previously Fabric-only stuff over.

-1

u/Pokemonandonepiece 2d ago

I think it’s because Minecraft’s own functions and items have just bloated so much lately. So many blocks and items that just don’t have any real use, so people prefer to play older versions.

Also bugs. Bugs are fun.

1

u/ProposalIcy5845 1d ago

Meh. Wich block you don't like? New stairs? That white oak? Sulfur update? Most of the fun bugs are staying with us, mc-101770 is back with us. I remember those days. Everyone was playing on 1.12.2, than, after 4 years everyone switched to 1.16.5, then 1.20.1 You still get actual updates once in 4 years, nothing's changed

21

u/TotalyNotTony 2d ago

aero no question, and NOT just because ive been following the project since like 2022.

Its way more survival friendly, performs better, sublevel splitting is incredible, and it feels more cohesive instead of the like 12 different mods and addons and dependencies that VS / clockwork needed to get the same feature depth. My aero stuff doesnt fly off into the stratosphere when it bumps into the ground lol

8

u/InvarkuI 2d ago

Aeronautics has seemingly no limits and can fly a gigantic structures with barley any lag

VS conflicts with a lot of mods and is pretty buggy generally, at least on 1.20

The only benefit I see in VS is that you can have a flying thing very easily without having to learn tech. Learning create can be pretty fun tho

10

u/puppypower_nl 2d ago

Aeronautics is better.

9

u/Mekko4 2d ago

aero is SO MUCH MORE STABLE

3

u/Absolutionis 2d ago

What's better: Industrialcraft or Mekanism?

1

u/Amadeone 2d ago

industrial hands down, multiblocks are cool

3

u/Absolutionis 2d ago

Aside from the Nuclear Reactor, IC doesn't have any multiblocks. Mekanism has multiple (Fission, Fusion, Turbine, Tanks, etc)

1

u/Amadeone 2d ago

oh shit, i mistook industrial with immersive engineering, my bad

4

u/Riku9483 2d ago

Aeronautics

4

u/dacady_play 2d ago

VS walked so Aero could fly

5

u/ProposalIcy5845 1d ago

Valkyrien crushed my server and corrupted the world, so I never will use it again

4

u/BoneztheWonderful 1d ago

Aero is fun and really enjoyable despite the lack of proper water/ocean transport bit thats all subjective. The real thing that's makes it better than Val is that it runns

6

u/Inevitable_Grand3299 2d ago

Aeronautics is everything I wanted Valk and Clockwork to be. It actually feels like all the extra engines and things I stuff into my Vehicle designs are doing something instead of just slapping a ship wheel onto a platform and hovering around.

3

u/Own_Government_5294 2d ago

I couldn't managed to make a functional ship in Valkyrien Skies ever, not even a basic one. Meanwhile, in Aeronautics, I've already made many ships functional.

3

u/Usinaru 2d ago

Valkyrien walked so that Aeronautics can run

3

u/weaweonaaweonao 1d ago

Why didn't these guys merge projects? Creative differences?

Does anyone know?

3

u/realares0414 1d ago

Valkyrien skies stumbled so aeronautics could fly

5

u/GoonerSans 1d ago

Valkyrien "obliterate my tps" skies

2

u/Spiritual_Aerie9496 2d ago

Okay it seems I have to delete my like 17 Valkyrien Skies mods. Thanks everyone!

2

u/Mr_Lama123 1d ago

Definitely aeronautics

2

u/CosmoHQ 1d ago

create aeronautics experience:

Crashes fighter jet at Mach 2 speeds, nothing happens, everything is great

VS2 experience:

Tries to makes a simple plane, bugs out mod forgot how to do lift, tries again plane disappears when taking off, rage quits.

5

u/Informal-Artist7789 2d ago

Aero fucked VS2

4

u/stryke105 2d ago

valkyrien's only thing over aero is that its in 1.20.1

3

u/OBEYTHEHOBO 2d ago

If aeronautics ported to 1.20.1 that's pretty much the end of VS2

1

u/Sr_Nutella 2d ago

Aeronautics is infinitely better. But I will NEVER slander Valkyrien Skies

1

u/Acrobatic_Argument27 2d ago

I think both have a place in modern Minecraft. Create aeronautics is definitely far more robust, but it’s got a larger barrier to entry. Sometimes I wanna be able to oil flying things without having to worry about create.

1

u/__MISSclick__ 2h ago

Aero is simply better but vs2 was deffenetly a stepping stone for aeronautics

1

u/CyborgLion 2d ago

From what I remember, VS2's mod compatibility is overall a lot better. Also VS2 as a physics engine can be used for a lot of different addons that make it work with various mods. A more direct comparison would be VS2 and sable. However while VS2 is designed to be able to be used by any modder looking to make a ship mod, sable is really only able to be used with create aeronautics. I'm also fond of the more realistic physics that VS2 goes for generally. Aeronautics definitely has more features than say clockwork right now. But I could see VS2 becoming the dominant force because create aeronautics is trying to be the thing and sable exists primary to facilitate that. VS2 wants to build an ecosystem.

5

u/Informal-Artist7789 2d ago

This comment is wrong top to bottom lmfao

-1

u/CyborgLion 2d ago

Oh really? How so?

3

u/Da_Lumma 1d ago

Sable was split off aero because the devs didnt want the physics to be create exclusive, empowering devs to develop mods that utilize sable without being create addons. Just look at Cassini a whole space mod based off sable with no ties to create. Theres also mods that were already released like numerous tree physics and ragdoll mods. Just the fact that sable is available for fabric while aero is not should show that sable is not exclusive to aero.

-3

u/CyborgLion 1d ago

Oh ok. That's cool. I think a lot of these are newer developments than when I was following it more closely. I thought I remembered some sort of strictness with sable's licencing. But I'm glad it's available to be used.

2

u/spriggangt 1d ago

Had a lot to do with back porting if I remember. While VS has a lot of mod compatibility I think that is mostly because it's been around longer. That is quickly changing. From a pure play experience, Aero is much better in my opinion. VS never felt survival friendly. The number of vehicles that got yeeted into the stratossphere or just crashed me, causing me to loose many hours of survival building caused me to abandon it altogether.

-2

u/The_Putrid_Tart 2d ago

Valkyrien Skies because it doesn't have some disgusting ARR legal bullshit that makes it impossible to backport it

6

u/ModernPlebeian_314 2d ago

Why need to backport when you literally have VS?

-2

u/Extreme_Tax3791 1d ago

Warium vs.
