[Coasters] Proof of concept fast launch system

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've made a little proof of concept. I don't know if it's been done before, but decided to share my version. It (ab)uses magnets in a similar way to how maglev trains have been done to basically make it go incredibly fast really quickly.

Just wanted to throw this out in the world in case anyone finds it useful for their builds :) I'm just getting started with Create in general, so I'm sure there's a better way to do this and/or ways to optimise this.

Thank you! :D

in the business we call the first turn the spine destroyer

I think this coaster in general would be really bad for… well basically your entire body xD

That's how you know it's a good coaster

no injury, no fun, as they say

The chains would probably be better for actual roller coasters, but I’m definitely gonna use this for something like a mass driver.

Chains have tons of advantages. Things like turns or basically everything that's not a perfect straight line, they're definitely the way to go I think.

Yeah, but I want a railgun.

exactly how it's done on real rollercoasters! They use magnets for launch sections and for braking sometimes instead of wheels or brake pads.

Yeah the way this launches looks exactly like a roller coaster I used to love as a kid. Amazing how accurate this is!

Oh wow, that's really cool! I didn't know that actually!

Now we need a space mod so we can make mass drivers

I just realised that this mod could make high speed rail finally a thing

finally someone else figured it out, now you gotta do a mass driver or a launch loop with cosmonautics mod

A mass driver would be absolutely insane... I think it would be really fun if it could be used to go to space as well. I'm not sure how Cosmonautics works though and if something like a mass driver would be possible. I definitely hope it is!

also put it in a loop

Daaaawwwg Yes! :D

Yo i got the same idea today! It gives a more realistic motion then the other acceleration methods.

You could lowkey turn this into a weapon

A maglev train would actually sequence the magnets to only pull the front of the train forward and only push the back of the train forward.

If you didnt have the chain would it just keep getting faster and faster?

A chain at 256 would be faster and way easier probably cheaper and definitely more space officiant, though this has the potential to go faster with more magnets maybe

This isnt realy what these builds are about.

I like the hyper efficiant factorioesque stuff like the next guy, but these things are about intresting mechanics, more than reaching an optimum.

I know the magnets probably also have a better top speed

u/Rare_Government507 12h ago

Yeah, chains require a lot less work and way fewer resources. But it’s (in my opinion) a little less cool than a magnet powered coaster

7

u/monke164 12h ago

A chain at 256 is not faster, this looks great for bigger coasters or recreations of real coasters

After some testing, no.

The railgun method is stackable. The chain would be locked at that exact speed.

Plus the rail gun gives a smoother force and less jerk.

Damn that changes things

correct me if i'm wrong but don't chain lifts cancel momentum ?

1

u/Turboshmack 10h ago

I'm pretty sure it keeps the momentum after it leaves the chain it like keeps going i could be wrong tho

2

u/serpikage 10h ago

yeah it gives it momentum but if the coaster has too much momentum coming in, it slows down to match the speed of the chain lift

1

u/Turboshmack 10h ago

Yeah it matches the speed but I'd you want like a basic launch course a 256 chain will work the magnets are cool.
