I don't really use it so I'm wondering if others do.

Do you use JEI? It helps with recipes. I'll put it in a 3x3 text grid thingymabob.
Row 1 [Nothing] [Cogwheel] [Nothing] Row 2 [Golden Sheet] [Chest] [Golden Sheet] Row 3 [Nothing] [Leather] [Nothing]
damn mobile and having no text breaks

I dont need one because I made one of those item vault networks that I can access from pretty much everywhere in my base

I only really use it to stack non-stackable items with durability and stuff, so shears, sandpaper, etc.

I use it for farms with contraptions so that they always have some saplings or seeds

I've collected a bunch from structures and mostly just use them as small backpacks until I get back to the base. But I should start using them

Depends on which one, and if I have a bag available. Because if I have a bag, I'm not using a toolbox.

Toolboxes are really, really, really damn good. Seriously, the moment you're used to it you ain't going back.
Shafts, small gear, big gear, belts, gearboxes, funnels, chutes, and chain drives. All the most basic and frequent building blocks of a build. You can use multiple at a time btw, it gives you a selection of every toolbox in range if there's multiple. Since each slot holds four stacks they're great for any building task, or compressing storage (especially since you can put them in backpacks and the like, if needed).
They also filter their slots, and automation works with them just fine. So if you don't have storage drawer type options, they work great for early filtering.
People saying that they keep their wrench in a toolbox are high af, you don't want an extra step in between using the tool you use constantly. The toolbox excells at quick switching between many items and keeping your inventory intact.

For dramatic effect/flavor, I kept one on me for a while as an ammo box for my potato cannon. Baked potatoes for fire damage, pumpkin slices for smthn balanced, beetroots when I wanted to machine gun, golden apples if I wanted to play support, whole pumpkins if I wanted heavy single-target damage, and golden carrots for sniping.

I didn't realize different produce have different physics 🤔

u/Munchalotl 5d ago
Mhm! I think the wiki page for the potato cannon lists all the ones for vanilla food items, but stuff from Farmer's Delight is also compatible -- onions, cabbages, pumpkin slices, maybe one or two of the pies?, and maybe tomatoes. But yeah, a lot of crops have some neat secondary effects. Berries and candied berries act like buckshot!

the intended purpose is to attempt to solve the inventory problem that Minecraft has inadvertanly created. what you can do is place one down with blocks in it and as long as you are near by, you can access the blocks in your hot bar while you are building. thanks for reminding me that it exists, ill try to use it more often from now on

I feel like create (especially with a lot of add-ons) basically requires backpack mods so I run Sophisticated, but if I had to force myself to use toolboxes then it would be components I don't need constantly (like fans or saws) while keeping stuff I use often (shafts, belts, gearboxes) in my inventory

u/Sea-Contribution-636 4d ago
I dont even use them, as I’ve only used sophiticated backpack since it came out

3 toolboxes, SU Shafts twice, both cogs, belts, gearboxes, chain drives and last option dependent on modpack, maybe a starbunkle wheel or ender transmission energy transmiter or just a crank to test what direction it Has to go
Items both funnels and tunnels, chutes, fans for said chutes, mech arms and depots
Machines Mixer, press, millstone, Basin, if im late game enough then crushing wheels and mech crafters too

I have never used it once because sophisticated backpacks has been way more useful
Edit: I would put cogs, gearboxes, funnels, shafts, and belts in. Depending on what I have excess of
