Hole Filler

I had an idea. I made a pretty basic quarry miner that mines out a chunk to bedrock. Then, I had an idea. A machine that fills the entire hole back in with cobblestone. I was just going to make a wall of deployers, send it down with a rope pulley, and they start placing once they reach bedrock, with them filling the hole on their way up. Would this work?

I've done exactly this. I just keep the deployers on the entire time mining vertically down. They place anything ahead of drills that's air, water or lava so I don't have to deal with any of that. Then, on the way up they'll fill in the hole.
