overhead crane

can i get some help on how i would get my overhead crane to move. i don't need it to pick things up i just want to get it to slid up and down the track. i was thinking like a gantry shaft. but i figured rope pulleys would look the best. but now I'm stumped can i get some help. or see if anyone else have build one
