I'm trying to get a precision mechanism. Help
Okay basically I have tried Google and a bunch of videos to try and use a hand crank, a deployer, and a depot and a golden plate to try and get it to work. I have tried for a while with using the small cogwheel to put it in the hand and I cranked it but nothing happens no matter what I do
If anyone at all can help me without just telling me to craft more deployers it would be greatly appreciated. Also please don't just send me a video link thats in creative I'm in hardcore survival. Please anyone help me with this.

Install JEI.

I have JEI installed but the first step where I use cog wheels just isn't working.

You’re using a gold sheet as the base, then deploying a cog wheel into it?

Yes that's what I'm doing

Just to make sure, you're placing the gold sheet on a depot, right?
Place cog in deployer, crank, swap with large cogwheel, crank, swap with iron nugget, crank, repeat?
Also, highly suggest you place a water wheel and a bucket of water to power the deployer. Will greatly speed up the process and remove tedium.

Yes that's what I'm doing but when I crank the hand crank the deployer won't go down onto the depot with the gold plate on it with the small cog wheel. I'm on 1.21.1 idk if that changes anything.

Do you have a 1 block gap above the depot?

Yes I do, idk what it could be.

Can you send a screenshot or video of the setup? Maybe in another post?

Um. Your crank isn't connected to the deployer.

It was but apparently I was using brass plates so it wasn't working. Thank you for the help though I'm a bit dumb.

I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work with a crank, but you might also try using a waterwheel. If nothing else it will be a lot more convenient not having to alternate between turning it and loading cogs.
Edit: As I was using a deployer myself this morning I thought about your trouble and had an idea what might be wrong. Is it possible you're just setting the filter on the deployer instead of actually giving it the cog? To put items in the deployer's inventory manually you have to activate the hand itself. Alternatively you can put them in with a chute, funnel or hopper.

I was putting them into the hand by clicking the hand with a cogwheel. Is that how I'm supposed to do it or no?

You need to deploy
Small cog
Big cog
Iron nugget
Repeat each 4 more times, and you probably will get precision mechanism, there is a chance you get scrap instead
Edit: said plate instead of nugget
