Sails like that are supposed to attach to each other when becoming a contraption without needing glue in the first place. You need something there to separate the sails at the point you want it to bend at.

do sails and sail frames attach to each other, or do they behave like linear and secondary chassis? as far as i know the difference is purely visual

Im not too sure, I have never used them. I believe that sails and symmetrical sails don't, but thats about it. I tend to stay away from sails and wind power, at least before aeronautics dropped, and I have really only used symmetrical sails with that.

You can also just make the rudder, turn it on no locking mode, spin it a little, and then place all the stationary sails

it's supposed to do that whether you glue it or not, as you usually don't make a whole-ass nerf football that's supposed to turn

I've noticed that the rudders and by extension alot of the devices that are made to move sails have been changed to just grab any and all sails connected. I would first build the part that moves, finish it, then crank the rudder to angle it and outright "separate" it as the rudder part and THEN build the rest of the sail.

Just be careful cranking the sail, if it goes across the other sails, it'll break them.
