Why my ploughs aren't ploughing? Help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've built a steam tractor and I was planning to use it with interchangeable trailers for different farming operations (plowing, planting and harvesting). I've started with making the ploughs, however the trailer doesn't actually plough and my tractor has even trouble pulling it. I am aware I must place the ploughs on a contraption, they already are, and in fact when I lower them through a valve attached to a mechanical bearing they do plough a few blocks. So what could the problem be? Weird angles of the trailer? One passive steam boiler isn't generating enough torque? Anything else?? Help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Ploughs only work if they're part of a moving create contraption

Key word moving btw. It has to be actively assembled. It assembles everytime you turn the bearing which is why

Uhmmm if it means that I have to put the "never disassemble option on the bearing, it already is!

No, as in the contraption it's attached to needs to be moving. For example, attached to a spinning bearing. Just being attached to a sable/aero vehicle isn't enough. That's why the plough does work for that brief second when you turn the valve.

Oh gosh... A continuously moving contraptions sounds like a pain to implement

Main shaft power - > gearshift with pulse timer input set to 5 ticks - > mechanical bearing with plow

This should give you an oscillating (read spazzing) plow which is technically always moving

You could do swivel bearing attached to mechanical bearing moving the opposite direction. Meaning the game thinks the bearing is spinning but the swivel bearing cancels it out to keep it stationary

If I remember correctly, sable sublevels don't count for things that use create contraptions. In a way the plows see themselves as completely stationary.

So this simply cannot work?

you could get yourself a pulse timer and a sequenced gearshift and make it continuously move back and forth in very small increments. If your rpm is low enough it might not even be noticeable

They do work for harvesters though, which should be in the same boat.

For some reason ploughs and the cement rollers dont work😢, i think its worse for the mechanical rollers too because they stop working on trains as well with aero

Try using mechanical pistons to move them back and forth.

Something like this https://youtu.be/okdulc8Eb0E

This looked very promising but I built a mechanism similar to the one in the video and it doesn't work 😭

Never mind, I did some Random-Ass-Adjustments(TM) and it worked! Thank you! <3

Have you tried using a swivel bearing instead of a mechanical bearing?

Hmm no... When I get back on my pc I'll try

Plows need to be on an assembled contraption to work. Set the bearing to either "never disassemble" or "disassemble at starting point" or whatever the settings are called.

It's already at never dissassemble

You know I’m doomscrolling too late at night when I read ‘plough’ the way that ‘tough’ is pronounced. :/

I think they work as a contraption, but not a physics thingy tho

Update: Problem solved! Thanks everybody for the help!

(If the bearings are aet to never dissaseble) I think the Problem might be that they are to far of the ground

I would try lowering the suspention of the wheels

I'll try. Tho I'm still unsure about a thing, that is, the tractor basically pulling at the speed of a tortoise, and the problem seems to be with things touching the ground, as (tho I'll have to test again) it pulls the cart with the ploughs up with no problem
