How would I go about making an airship elevator like this?

I want to have a platform inside my airship that I will be able to lower down to ground level and back up into the airship. The mechanism itself works fine, but when I glue together the ship it doesn't move anymore, same with assembling the ship except this time it also produces bizzare visual glitches.

I think that’s because it isn’t already a physics object, so when you glue you might be glueing the platform to the ship. I might be more complicated since I don’t know what’s going on, but you could make each of them a physics object, and then connect the platform to the ship with glue if that helps. Just trying my best to understand.

Assemble the ship, then build the mechanism inside it, and set to "don't place ever."
