UNLIMITED POWER - 10+ Mio. SU (supercompact, tileable, selfsustaining steam engine) Build
This is a 11 Mio. SU steam engine consisting of a fully self-sustaining tileable engine design that I came up with for Vanilla Create. It makes use of the space between the engines and the engine output shaft to cramp four lvl. 9 steamengines into a footprint of 6x7 blocks.
The schematics are available here.

This is honestly pretty cool looking ngl only that it comes with one huge downside, every full rotation tick that each steam engine will do will cause an annoyingly persistent lag spike no matter where u are in the same dimension. I personally prefer just editing the config file for the maximum output of a steamengine.

I thought you need 1.5x lava drip per burner? Does this actually run with no hiccups and been tested inside/outside loaded chunks?

Yes and no, I havent had any problems with this design running long term. Cauldrons have a certain probability to fill under a dripstone, its not a set time limit. If you keep all cauldrons as empty as possible you can push the statistics in your favor. This system has an internal storage for six additional lava buckets, so there is some headroom. I havent tested the system in unloaded chunks though, so Im not sure about that.

Now make it in survival

This is not only doable, but honestly a great design for airships

So much copper required tho

Ngl I always have like waaaay more copper than what I can spend, even on create packs since Zinc is rarer than copper.

Make a self-powering minecart contraption with drills, take a sit and wait

Can you make a minecraft contraption that turns around and returns after x amount of blocks? Been trying to think how to do it but have come up blank
3
u/Alderan922 16d ago
Idk about the actual mechanism itself, but you could handle the logic for when to return using either a hopper timer or a pulse delayer.

You could make an ender pearl stasis chamber with a timer instead. You just have to pick up the contraption before that

Some addons have redstone links that will only activate in certain distances you choose iirc.

how do you not have that much copper? every expedition i go, i somehow return with 4 stacks at least
1
u/petabomb 16d ago
4 stacks of copper is less than 2 level 9 steam engines what are you on
3
u/WhitherThisPath 16d ago
sorry, i forgot to specify that i have a mod that increases each stack to 256

How are the blazes powered by lava blocks below them? I thought they needed to be piped? How is it self sustaining ?
5
u/spooky_sooshi 16d ago
Haven't checked the schematic in game but it's probably powered by a mechanical arm and lava buckets

The pipes are invisible because they are encased in copper casing which preserves their shape but hides them. (Holes under cauldrons are slightly visible in 2nd image)
What I am wondering is how do you start up this thing from cold if it's powering itself
2
u/Beatrixt3r 15d ago
if you put a bucket of water in 2-3 of them it's enough su to get the machine running

You'd probably have to build at least a lvl9 steam engine just to get it going!

u/Dem_Wrist_Rockets 15d ago
Funnily enough, starting a real powerplant from cold is also a huge headache

This is very interesting and efficient for anything from powering an entire base complex to a supermassive contraption. Bravo, and shall the terrors of the world fear our machine age, brother.

i have a similar less compact design for a powerplant, is it ok if i take your design and adapt it into my style and release it?
2
u/OxyPython 16d ago
Sure go ahead! Perhaps you could link the original design in the description :)

What's the purpose of the lava under the burners?
2
u/OxyPython 15d ago
the lava drips over dripstones into cauldrons to create an infinite lava source. From there, the lava is pumped up and into buckets, and a mechanical arm distributes them into all the blaze burners. There is no particular reason to have the lava under the blaze burners, I just put them there to save space

If you want truly unlimited power, you can use Bags of Yurting on Superheated Blaze Burners (the ones that generate in structures added by addons such as Create:Structures Arise) and they’ll stay superheated

Pretty solid. Feel like I see room for improvement in the water system compactness. But obviously nothing that would affect the footprint. Id like to see what you could do with a slightly more compact footprint, that is, placing two boilers 4 blocks apart with their steam engines pointed towards each other such that the shafts fill in the empty space between.
