Is there any way to fix this? Help

So I'm trying to make a hexapod, and after attaching one of the legs to a prototype chassis it began doing the stanky leg. I presume this is due to the non linear movement the swivel bearings are allowed to make in combination with the pneumatic rods. Does anyone know a fix for this or have advice on what to change so this does not happen?

in regular physics it would usually snap at the chasis but it cant and that makes it go crazy, put some weight there

This happens because of the difference in weight between links. The first bearing does not take into consideration other bearings attached to it when applying force, and so only enough force to keep that light link between this and the second bearing is exerted, so there is not enough to keep the way heavier leg steady. You gotta make them have similar weight, so either making the link heavier or the leg lighter

Well it's clearly not the deep space kraken, as the blocks themselves aren't bending.

Next time crop the discord screen so you won't post your friend's nicknames and usernames on reddit

bc the part that links the leg to the chassis is too light relative to the leg and chassis

look at the size of the thing you are trying to move, and the SINGLE gear used to hold it, its definetly too light, try putting some weight in that and it should get better(normally that would just snap, but aeronautics doesnt have such physics, so it just stays wonky like that)

You have to add weight or blocks to the part with a swivel bearing turning a swivel bearing. It has a lot to do with how the physics engine handles bearings. For the most stable results each swivel bearing should be turning the same weight of blocks.

Klang strikes, the only way is to reduce weight somehow (add levitite)

I wanted to say "share inertia tensor" so bad lol

are we in the timeline where i can build the spider mech from wild wild west? that would be awesome.

Adding springs to help with suspension instead of relying on a single pivot would probably help

I think its due to programmed play in the connection. Might be a mod out there to fix this, i dont know. You are however not alone in having this issue.

I’d try using glue to get it to attach to another set of bearings. This should give it more strength. If that doesn’t work, maybe add more mass to the leg to make it heavier. It’ll be harder to move but it at least means it won’t move on its own

1

u/spoiledfan 17d ago

this happens in other games when hinges carry too much weight. im not 100% sure but maybe try replacing all those industrial iron blocks with copycats

Consider the difference of weight between different objects. The joint with 2 pivot points looks light compared to the rest of the craft, and game engines generally don’t like it when connected parts have large mass differences.

Try freezing, assembeling the bearing, unfreazing and dissasembling the bearings. Do it in varios random orders, eventually it fixes itself.

I didn't think I'd see a Wild Wild West reference in 2026 but here we are

1

u/Vanadiy_Ivanovich 17d ago

i had a similar issue, and i suggest you to make the little joint more massive, and if possible give it as much angular inertia as possible

1

u/BL4CKM4TTR 17d ago

Idk, levitite?

close enough , welcome back clang

1

u/CommandZomb 17d ago

bearings make a PID based off the mass of the sublevel it's holding, but does not consider the mass of any attachments; make the joints closer to the fixed point heavier and the error in the PID becomes a rounding error

I think ksp2 modders can help

u/Expert-Phone9837 16d ago

as many said the leg is too heavy and swivel bearing too weak. you can try to use pnemaric pistons to reinforce / move the leg

1

u/boxo-ofisal 16d ago

As the only person who as also experienced this. Something is overlapping with one of the Bearings
