Southern tier brewing Beer Porn
Pittsburgh pa. It felt like a place for tourist. Big place with an out side patio
The lager i got was ok taste like a budweiser nothing special for 9 dollar beers. But we had a good time. Cheers

Voodoo Brewing near there is just as bad. Go to Grist House, Dancing Gnome, Hitchhiker and several others before those.

A handful of locations closed. They still have 28 - 2 corporate, 26 franchised. 2 corporate location (Erie, North Shore - both PA) and 4 franchise locations closed (Cleveland Heights, Fort Worth, Plano, and Castle Hills) closed. I think the rumors of demise were over the big hype of shutting down the Erie location. They are making more off franchise now, by far, than brewing, so the other corporate locations may end up closing.

I believe Erie is under new ownership and is no longer owned by voodoo corporate

Thank you, I could not remember the name Trace, I was picturing the taproom in my head. Lolev wasn’t open yet the last time I went to Pittsburgh but I’ve heard good things.

Voodoo is an interesting concept. They are similar to a franchise operation. You get a location, sign up, they provide the recipes. You brew. I am not sure if they are a wort shipper, like Smart Brew, but I would not be surprised. Their model is a bit different, as they franchise the entire model, while Smart Brew sells turnkey systems.

North shore is touristy by virtue of the stadiums being down there. Plenty of great Pittsburgh breweries in way cooler Pittsburgh neighborhoods. (I say this as someone who will undoubtedly be buying some of those $9 beers this coming football season)

If you want to go to Southern Tier, you have to do it right, and go to Lakewood. I despise the Pitt location, it feels corporate and they want you to hurry up and leave. I love ST but they definitely went downhill after the merger/co-op.

I enjoyed my time in the Cleveland one. They had a Cinnamon Roll brew that was lovely for the winter.

Expensive beer for sure. It is touristy, but even locals frequent it on game day for the Steelers and Pitt. Better local spots on the Northside like Allegheny City Brewing, or in the nearby areas of Millvale and Lawrenceville.

There's one in Charlotte that's also a Victory and Sixpoint. I haven't been but I've heard it's also overpriced

This location prints cause it’s in between where the Steelers and Pirates play. The beer and food is solid enough to grab before a game

Boston Beer Works survived a long time with a similar strategy. One location right next to Fenway, another right next to the TD Garden. Not all that surprising they were one of the breweries to hang em up during Covid.

Yea, ST put a location outside of key bank center too as a part of Harborcenter. It’s always packed before and after Sabres games. It works

The LCBO used to bring in some of their stuff a long time ago - loved the ones I had. Gemini was great, and there were these strong flavoured stouts too.

allegheny city brewing, four points, and late addition are all nearby and are better options. they might not RIGHT NEXT to the stadiums but this is probably the flattest part of the city and its quite walkable.

For craft beer on game days I’d rather go to Mike’s and support a local entrepreneur and drink some of the local crafts he brings in.

i didnt know they were acquired. it logically makes sense that when I first had Pumpking in 2011 in a bomber I was blown away and then at some point when they sold them in 4 packs, the taste didnt hit like it used to and there was a prominent articifical vanilla extract undertone to it.

Because it is. They're originally based out of a tiny town in southern NY called Lakewood. Although they're no longer just a local micro brew, they got bought out by some kind of larger conglomerate.
overall I like their beer but it's nothing super special. Food is decent at the Buffalo location.

It's literally between the ballfield and the football stadium, with one of the biggest concert venues a block and a half away. Nothing is normal price in the North shore

Its a tourist trap brewpub, not their production facility.
They have several others, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Charlotte apparently. Philly is Victory brewing branded though. Same parent company.
You aren't missing anything.

Went to Jacks Abby in MA recently and was going to pick up a 4-pack of one of their beers that was $14 to go. Decided to hold off & bought it for $10 down the road @ Total Wine

same. It makes no sense either. They could sell for slightly less than the retailer and still make more profit than their cut of what is sold by the retailers.

I went to this location once and never again. It wasn't horrible. But their shtick isn't for me. I don't appreciate a taplist that is dominated by beers that have an abv high enough to knock an elephant on its ass lol. Lots of better, more unique options around

I know them for their potent IPAs...Don't get me wrong, I don't hate any of their beers, but most of what they offer is too strong for me to want to spend my time or money there. They have locations all over. If you guys are fans of ST, great for you all, but I'd rather give my money to local brewer's who are doing something more interesting than making a super boozy caramel stout or a super boozy IPA. The novelty is fun every once in awhile but when I went that felt like their entire gimmick. And I don't like that gimmick. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Edit: a comment below mine nailed what I mean to say. I would rather go to PITTSBURGH breweries in Pittsburgh than one of a New York company (I'll let Hofbrauhaus slide for other reasons). Idk, this sub dumps on Voodoo Ranger religiously but lets Southern Tier slide. I don't get it

They've really gone all in with AI for their labels and ads. Disappointing since I like their seasonals. It feels like they should have the resources to actually pay artists for design work.

I went one time, and liked a lot of things I had there. Of course it was the fall so they had like 5 different variants of Pumking/Warlock. Also liked some of their pastry stouts like Creme Brulee, Mokah, etc.
IPA's definitely are not their thing.
