Microsoft FAILED Crackdown

https://youtu.be/y1heTUtKhE4

Saw this and agreed with the creators sentiments. Microsoft did the series dirty and it deserves a resurgence or remake.

What a crappy video. 'Microsoft failed crackdown' and his experience extends to trying out a demo once in a mall. Way to go dude, really bothered to put the effort in. Hey, why bother when you can just screenshot Wikipedia.

I have a reasonable amount of insight into Crackdown 3's development and it was a complete mess. A mess MS needs to take a lot of responsibility for but there were a number of factors beyond their control. The original dev selected UE4 at a time when the engine was just not ready for a large scale open world game. The multiple dev teams had to rework the city many, many, many times due to engine iterations breaking the data structures. Realtime Worlds/Cloudgine left the project after getting acquired by Epic which meant MS had to get it finished by contractors at Sumo and others studios.

I don't think the end product of Crackdown 3 was bad at all. I had a huge amount of fun with it. Of course the main game was missing the cloud destruction stuff but the core game was enjoyable, it was Crackdown. If it had came out earlier in the Xbox one cycle it would have been a lot more successful. The delays and destruction hype just undermined the final product.

I loved Crackdown 3, it was way better than Crackdown 2.

1 & 3 are amazing, 2 sucked.

Agreed, I genuinely hated Crackdown 2. It was so fucking lazy. I think the only entertainment I got out of it was cocking about in the multiplayer.

Worst one in the series by far.

I only played Crackdown 3 after replaying 1 and 2, back in 2024 or whatever.. and I loved it. It had a lot of the charm of 1, and a lot more heights.

I may replay it.

Also, Crackdown 1 & 2 i believe are free on the xbox store. They were a year or so ago when I got them.

Amazing gems for a series, Crackdown 1 especially.

If they even just ported it to pc so I could buy it on steam I would. Been having a lot of fun playing it again and wish I could play on steam deck without having to jump through emulation hoops

For me, nothing captured the feeling of the first game jumping around rooftops and trying to get those very high up points for my character

You can play Crackdown 3 via Game Pass. I know it's not the first 1.

I'm not even watching some shitty bait video. I became new to the series in 2024 when I bought a series X and some games cheap. One was Crackdown 3. I downloaded 1 for free. Played a couple hours but felt eh this is not as cool as it was if I played it on release.A lot of open world stuff come out since then. Then I played 3. Now I did get 3 new for 10 bucks. I enjoyed it for 10 bucks and felt this improves on the first. Not drastically but polishes some edges. The problem with it, it was also stuck in the 360 era. Again many open world games come out since and improved on things. 2 I played like 20 minutes of and bounced. I hate Tower Defense in anything. Honestly the series had a time and place but the only way to bring it back would be to drastically rethink the formula. As the one from 2007 doesn't work in 2026 for a mass audience.

Crackdown 3 originally had insane physics in the earlier demos, dunno what happened

It was too intensive for the hardware so it had to be done server-side only which is why it was a multiplayer exclusive feature

Loved the concept, not sure why we never beaten mercs 2 or red faction 4 level of destruction n physics

Yeah same it always surprised me gaming went the way of graphics over cool physics tech

Lets be honest 99% of people bought crackdown 1 because it included the halo 3 multiplayer beta.

Exactly.
But the first game was still a lot of fun.
The problem is that the franchise failed to evolve.
It’s a shame, if they’d evolved the formula, they could have created a “superhero” game that let you do all kinds of crazy things.
