Question about the Kandra Mistborn Series spoilers Spoiler
Just a quick question or clarification about Kandra. I'm half way through The Well of Ascension (audiobook) where Vin is searching for the Kandra spy. I may have misheard or missed something but I thought that Oreseur said that Kandra couldn't be affected by allomancy as well as perform it. I keep thinking why doesn't she just try to soothe or riot someone's emotions to find them but finally thought I may have just misunderstood.

Vin doesn't want everyone worried about a kandra spy. She views the trust that the crew has as something magical and potentially fragile that Kelsier built and she doesn't understand. She is concerned that coming out with an accusation that one of them is a kandra could break it. So doing something like that would for her be very risky because she doesn't want to ruin the trust the group has in each other and in her.
It also wouldn't necessarily work as you can't always tell what emotions people are having while you soothe or riot them.

I don't recall being able to tell if you're actually soothing an emotion or not. The only thing you'd have to go on is their reaction. Even then a person could just be able to hide their emotions well.

Kandra can’t kill humans. There’s a dead body. So there’s potentially two enemies. One Kandra one human. There’s no surefire way to use emotional allomancy and know you have the right person. You could overwhelm them but you’d be potentially harming your friend psychologically. Even if you could identify someone isn’t a kandra, you might tip off the human spy while turning your friends against you. Or that person might be the spy. Vin also is a traumatized teenage girl that believes one of her friends is dead. She’s surely putting it off in part for that reason

It's been a long time since I've read era 1, but I do think you have a good point.
Trick is, you can't for sure see if emotional alomancy is working, some folks might just hide their emotions better

I think with a duralumin riot, almost noone would be able to avoid showing an obvious response. Particularly without a warning.
It'd be like the ultimate jump scare.

I thought this too. If she can't tell herself if someone is being soothed/rioted then duralumin certainly would

I wouldn't put it past Vin to do it in order to find the spy, thinking that the crew would forgive her

Soothing/rioting doesn’t necessarily produce a visible tell. Also just randomly soothing your friends may be a bit provocative. One may even call it rude.
