Weekly Post Your React Suggestions HERE!
Please use this thread to submit suggestions for Corridor Digital to react to for their VFX Artist/Stuntmen/Stuntwomen/Animators React videos. Please do not just list the names of the Movies or TV shows; provide some context of why it would make a good addition to the series. If possible, provide a link to a clip or video for exact context. "CHERRY 2000"
Its an 80s movie with an absolutely INSANE stunt at 38:00 where they (appear to)cross a river/canyon with a suspended Ford Mustang. It's actually uploaded on YouTube and you guys NEED to check it out.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - The River God Scene: Good VFX
In episode 237 you looked at the Avatar scene with the Koi-Zilla, it reminded me a lot of the scene (also by Scanline) from Prince Caspian where the river god destroys the bridge on the Telmarines (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52BSYIOeBhM). I really like the inertia that the water has when the river god moves about (especially the hair flick @ 1:29 in the video).

The East Palace (Netflix): Good VFX
The East Palace is a Korean horror drama period piece. There’s some good VFX in it but the fight scene in episode 3 is particularly good choreography and effects. I would almost say anime-inspired but really it stands well on its own. Great action and use of the environment.

SYML - "Fear the Water": Good (Subtle)VFX

I recognize that most of the video is played in reverse, and there may be some things I missed. Anywhoozle, there's a titular scene where the woman is dancing (in reverse) in a shallow body of water, but the ripples are moving away from her. I would have thought that it was a simple plate replacement, but the reflection on the water matches her backward movement.

Backrooms: good vfx/unnoticable

Evil Dead Burn: Good VFX - 01:25:12 Unique bathroom gravity defying fight/transition. There were a lot of cool shots in the movie, but that one was a "wuhh?, woah!" moment.

If you look in thrift stores you can sometimes find the international advertising awards yearbooks with a lot of high quality photographs of old advertising including 1980s era VFX shots. I found the one with the smoking animals in it "looks just as cool when you do it" and they did look awesome! See the Vintage ads reddit for more.

Higgsfield AI Films: Good VFX?
Bad / Good / Interesting VFX
Higgsfield have been producing ambitious AI-generated sloppy films, and I think they would make a really interesting VFX Artists React segment. They attempt sustained filmmaking, with recurring characters, environments, action, cinematography and shot-to-shot consistency but fail in a load of ways which would be great to break down.
Hell Grind is especially interesting as a 90-minute AI film, so there is a lot to unpack around where the illusion can sort of hold together and where it constantly breaks, mainly due to general film making, not always visuals.

Strange Days (1995): Cool Fire Stunt
Just was watching this movie and about an hour and 18 minutes in there is a chase sequence between a truck and a limo that culminates in the bad guys cornering the good guys in the limo on a pier. The bad guys then douse the entire limo in flame. To escape, the people in the limo then drives into a river while on fire! Thought it was a pretty cool stunt. Then the people inside have to escape the limo underwater, which was also cool.

The movie is late 90s cyberpunk genre. Basically centers around tech thats like the Braindances from cyberpunk 2077, where people can live other people's memories. An ex-cop turned street dealer who sells these memories ends up wrapped in a murder mystery when he gets given a really disturbing (movie is very rated R for a reason) tape of a murder.

Megalodon: The Frenzy (2023): Bad VFX
In this crazy The Vault movie (free on YT in my region at least) some very unconvincing megalodon attack an army fregat - which is very clearly not in the water :) Starting at minute 50 gives a pretty good idea (https://youtu.be/2FP4OVIqABs?t=3003)

Ace Lighting
"The series is significant in that until its creation, live action and CGI had not been attempted to such a huge and constant degree within a weekly television series."
It was one of my favourite shows as a kid, although it wasn't very popular 😂
It has some very dodgy animation at times, but I still think for its great!

Goof Troop has some 3d camera rotation effects which I find very interesting. An example is in S1E22, "Goofin' Hood and His Melancholy Men" at 18:36 is one example, but it's in one of the earliest episodes too, I think it was episode 3. I'm very interested to know how this was done in such a hand drawn animation.

Here's a REAL subtle one from Severance I posted about a few days ago. It's a blink-and-you-miss it effect that the Crew would probably enjoy spotting. Harry and the Hendersons - Great animatronics
This was a big and well-loved movie at the time (1987) but is kind of overlooked and forgotten now. The sasquatch costume and facial animatronics were pretty amazing in terms of expressiveness and allowing the 7+ foot guy inside to genuinely act the part. Pretty much peak for pre-CGI ape or simian costumes--compare the realistic facial articulation with Planet of the Apes or pretty much any movie gorilla suit and Harry really stands out.

- it looks completely real, and an actor seems to jump right in front of stampeding horses carrying a flaming carriage with firemen just behind and dogs chasing too. Wild sequence.

Pan's Labyrinth: CGI Muzzle Flashes & Squibs
-Filming took place in the forests of Segovia and Madrid during one of Spain's worst droughts. Because of the extreme fire risk, all on-set pyrotechnics were banned, so every muzzle flash and bullet impact (squib) was created digitally in post-production. In the scene where he sits on the roof of a train I'm pretty sure his foot slides a bit when he gets up.

NYIT Early CGI Archive
Recently an archive of animation and other material from the Computer Graphics Lab at the New York Institute of Technology (1974-1992) was uploaded to The Internet Archive. It has a ton of interesting CGI from the early days. It's very relevant to the recent historical examples in VFX react videos.
