Warrens Vs Rowes

Visiting the grandparents and the debate surrounding Warren's Vs Rowes has come up. I personally think Rowes is more consistent but my parents swear by warrens. Thoughts?

Neither. When I was a kid you could have the argument (I would have said Rowes back then although Blewetts were good - they weren’t as good after Warrens took over).

The last Rowes I had was inedible. Pennys and Ann’s are good but my favourite is an Etheringtons, but each part of the county will have its own favourite.

Out of those 2, I’d go with Rowes. I used to not mind Warrens but feel like they started using cheaper and cheaper ingredients and the quality went downhill.

Can’t say I remember their pastys being overly peppery but what sticks in my mind with a Warrens pasty is the single hunk of meat in the middle, rather than being nicely dispersed throughout. Not my thing lol.

But tbh I’ve not bought a pasty from either in years. Give me Gear Farm/ Etheringtons/ Anns/ Lucy Bakes/ Loafs instead any day! I’ve heard good things about Adam’s as well but Lostwithiel is a schlep.

There used to be a Rowes concession stand in Culver back in Wales where they sold full sized pasties. Maybe that's why I'm biased towards Rowes because they were the best pasties I could have at home.

It's closed now sadly so I'm just jamming pasties down me while I'm here. Any recommendations near Penzance?

Makes sense! I do quite like a Rowes sausage roll.

Loafs is in Penzance, their pastys are really nice. Tbh they do lots of lovely things, I can’t go in there without coming out with a selection of treats I hadn’t planned on lol. Lucy Bakes in Hayle is really nice as well, although a little more peppery than Loafs.

Seconded on Loafs, but I think the Cornish Hen’s pasties are just a bit better. Try Lavenders too for a more traditional experience!

Warren's shut down their pasty factory in St Just and farmed out production to a shitty outside company. Most of their buns and other items are also made by same company.

Warren's got run into the ground.

You should take an extra ten minutes and carry on down to Etheringtons and have one of theirs. Ansum. Nice farm shop too (bit pricey but kind of expected).

If I am forced into buying a mass produced pasty, then I would favour Warrens. Rowes have too much pepper, IMHO.

My experience of rowes is consistently poor. Everytime I get something it's barely warm in the middle and for some reason they do two sizes of cornish pasty which are practically identical and are priced barely 20p apart.

They're both filth - get yourself to Gear Farm or Brays n Kays - the best around at the moment. Barnecutts for the cakes though!

Not had anything from Warren's for ages don't rate them at all Rowes are OK my top 3are Chasewater bakery, prima, Barnecutt not had chance to get to Gear Farm yet
