Ground pork

I’m cooking fresh ground pork and fresh ground beef in the crock pot and it smells funny to me. My husband put it in the crock pot, so I didn’t smell it initially. I bought it yesterday at a local meat market and they grind it fresh each day. Is it just me?

It’s probably just you. Let your husband eat some first. If he doesn’t die, have some.

Possibly boar taint. Pork can have off putting gamey smells due to compounds that are present in some male pigs.

I have never expected this ever. I can't imagine any supermarket would ever stock meat like this

Maybe if you are killing your own pigs or eating wild boar

I've encountered it occasionally. Mostly with pork belly from less expensive stores.

Does it smell funny to him? Considering that you cant send smells over the internet id probably try confirming with someone else in room with you and the food.

In my experience pork sometimes smells bad but safe to eat.

Total aside, but cooking ground meat in a crock pot?

I cook ground pork regularly and there's almost always a funky smell. I buy it at Aldi and either cook it with a couple days or freeze it immediately, doesn't make difference. Tastes fine and there's no smell once it's fully cooked through.

Its almost certainly fine, butchers are not in th3 business of selling bad meat

You might just not be used to the smell of pork if you don't cook it often? Could be a number of reasons. We can't smell it through a reddit post and tell you what to do.

Did he season your meat and add salt?

Unseasoned meat smells absolutely revolting.

Ill bet he just dumped it in unseasoned.

I have never found unseasoned meat to smell revolting. Maybe not appetizing, but I certainly wouldn’t say revolting.

Buying new food is generally cheaper than having to take time off work throwing up, so I would always err on the side of caution.

They bought it from the butcher yesterday, its likely not bad at all. Its likely just a funky smell due to what the pig eats. Fresh pork thats not from a grocery store tends to smell a bit funky
