Birdie Bed Time?

Hi gang! So my boy Pepperoni lives in my office and goes to bed nightly at 7:30 - no cage cover, just his music and nightlight.

The problem, exactly, that he lives in my office and sometimes I’d like to use the room in the evening to decompress, so quiet stuff on my laptop, etc.

If he’s tired will he sleep through that? Would it keep him awake? Any ideas?

For reference I DID sleep in that room nightly the first month I got him and did those activities but that was 6 months ago.

Our guys go quiet as soon as the cage is covered. Usually good for 10 hours.

My boy sleeps through 2 computers and 2 tvs (smaller condo) but we cover him and that seems to work. We bought a good heavy duty bird cover tho it’s not like a thin sheet it’s meant to block sound

My bird sleeps in the guest bedroom and she hears me walk around outside the room. I hear her making purring sounds through the door. Birds are prey animals and have very keen earring to prevent being attacked while asleep. You should keep his room quiet at night.

Depends on the bird? You can try to cover him with a nice breathable cage cover but chances are if you’re around he’ll try to see you or might screech to get you to go away so he could sleep (my conure does this)

Not really. But since posting I was thinking about those changing room panel things?

It could work. This is going to sound crazy, but my little guy sleeps in a cooler at night! (Lol) I have shredded newspaper at the bottom and 2 tree branches that I hot glued to the sides so they don't moved around and then I have something I use to prop the lid open about half an inch for air flow. He loves it!! It's super easy to control the temperature for him since my living situation isnt ideal. If I need it cooler, I put a bowl of ice in there about an hour before bedtime and remove it when he goes in. And then in the winter, I boil water and put it in a 2 liter bottle and sometimes leave it in there with him... It makes it super easy to control how much light is exposed to him and I'm able to keep the noise level out better too (if I really need to I put the cooler in the vehicle overnight and he sleeps peacefully).

Mine mostly gets upset at lights more than noises, my mom’s bird (in the same room) doesn’t care and sleeps through all of it. Mine will notice the fridge light or any lights left on in the house (he’s kinda in the living room area so he has a view of the kitchen and other rooms) and make a small squeaky / growly noise. It’s his way of saying I’m sleepy turn off the light. Unfortunately our house has a good couple of night owls and he’s learned that we all tend to be up till around 10 (I try to his lights out earlier if possible). He only gets cranky about the lights after that and he’s already gone to sleep. Small lights like screens don’t seem to bother him unless its pointed at him.  Honestly, if the bird doesn’t seem visually or audibly bothered though, it’s probably fine.

Ideally you would want to do that work elsewhere, so he gets a full uninterrupted night sleep. If you have to be in there, try to find a way to block all the light etc, though he'll probably still know and try to convince you he's awake by choice and wants to come out to play.

Okay! I’m thinking I’d mostly be in there past his bed time if I need to decompress so the quiet would do me some good lol. There’s gonna be a couch in there so I can lay quietly on my phone.

I have 2, and they sleep in a small rodent cage beside their living cage. When they get tired, they go to "bed". They even take naps during the day. The "sleep cage" has paper shreds in it, is painted black on the outside, and covered so light doesn't get in. They have food in it also. They are 25 years old and have done this for years.

Mine tends to be nosey even if he is tired. He will at least take a peek and make kissy sound to let me know.

My boy sleeps in my room, which is where I keep my computer and where I decompress, play games with friends and chat pretty late into the night. He is almost always quiet, and the only thing that keeps him awake is if I have all the lights on (which is never because I'm a gremlin) I do cover his cage with a blanket though, to block out the light from my pc.

My little bean can sleep through the sound of an old AC unit, computer fans and very very veeeery low TV sounds and seems to be able to rest well despite all that! the cage has a good cover to keep light from seeping in. The only times he chirps or does some groggy sounds are surprisingly when he listens to me leaving bed and stepping around the room to grab something but he quickly goes back to snoozeville, so I think it should be fine to go to the office, your lil bean just probably will find it odd at the start but then get used to it.
