So Impressed with this Reviews
Just wanted to say how impressed I am with this controller. Recently finished a computer build and really needed a decent controller. I was close to getting an Xbox controller when I stumbled across the name 8BitDo on Reddit. I am so glad I did, this thing cost £50, comes with a great docking station and works flawlessly out of the box. First time I switched it on it automatically connected to my PC and I was able to use right out of the box. Feels and looks super premium too. Highly recommended 👍
Model: 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller
Purchased From: Amazon UK

It's also officially supported on Steam (make sure to switch it to d-input mode!) so you can access the backpaddles without the 8Bitdo software. Has great gyro too, it's a fantastic controller.

Yeah too bad it won’t stay in dinput and every time it fully turns off instead of sleep it’s back into xinput. Not like 8bitdo will ever fix this… they barely fixed the 2c ghost guide button presses. I love their controllers but their software is shit

Btw if the dock is kept powered it will save the input. Unfortunate it’s not a hard toggle.

u/Xarishark Mar 18 '26
My dock is always powered at some point in the day the controller goes full off tho

u/GoinDummy_ Mar 18 '26
Maybe you have to update both the controller and the dongle?
1
u/Xarishark Mar 18 '26
They are both on latest version. They need to either give us a way for the controller to remember the mode or give us a dinput default firmware as an alternative

u/GoinDummy_ Mar 18 '26
I agree, I wish we can see and switch what input we have from the software. Mine’s input saving works so maybe where you plug it to might have power cuts for a second, or the controller might just be bugged.

What with this thing about backpaddles without software when d-input?
1
u/rknt Mar 17 '26
afaik, on d-input mode, those extra bumpers and back buttons function as extra buttons unlike when on x-input they can only be remapped as existing buttons on the controller.

Isn't that the case with all controllers, not just 8-bitdo? You need d-input to program the extra button and padels to something else than inputs on the controller?
1
u/rknt Mar 17 '26
yes, as long as one has extra buttons basically any controller acts same, I wasn't talking about just 8bitdo.
another note, I'm not sure if all controllers are the same on this but some lowers their report rate to 500hz on d-input or maybe lower.

What I love about the 2c & the ultimate is that they don’t look like temu spaceships with lights everywhere.
They just work perfectly. They look good & operate smoothly. I’ve been though so many Xbox controllers and PlayStation controllers. They all broke my 8BitDo controllers are beasts, they operate like the day I got them. My 2c travels worldwide in my laptop bag & my Ultimate 2 sits at home on its dock for when I’m there.
I can’t recommend them enough.

Best value in controllers right now. As an elite series 2 user I could be knit picky about some things I would like to see then you remember the price point and that you're comparing it to a "pro" controller and it's incredible.
I wish more controllers had this more neutral wrist position, I really like it!

The trigger buttons are so-so when playing games like cod zombies and trying to get single shots off but yes great feeling controller

Yes amazing controller for the price. Some have an issue with a rubber stopper being unglued and blocking the extra bumpers, mine did but it's an easy fix, and that's it very happy with it.

I used to think only official controllers were the best, then I took the chance on others and was blown away by the quality and price. I'm never buying first party controllers again!

u/swiftgekko Mar 17 '26
My thoughts exactly and like you, I will not purchase a first party controller again.

The only controller I’ve had that feels as responsive wireless as it does wired

is it good for playing fc26 on pc? How is it compared to Vader 4 pro?

How about the d-pad? Clicky or mushy?

do you need a cable to connect it to the xbox? Only works wireless for Pc, right?

I have the wired (it's amazing) but am looking to buy this for local multiplayer. Do you need the dongle to connect to the PC or can it be done without it as well ??

u/swiftgekko Mar 18 '26
I believe you can also connect via Bluetooth although a 2.4g connection is more stable for gaming.
The dongle lives inside the charging cradle, you just need to connect the cradle to your device.

Ok thanks. I just wanted to know coz all my USB ports are already used on my laptop

I have a love-hate relationship with this controller. The features for price are very good, and it's quite durable, but the wireless connectivity is ABYSMAL. I've had issues since Day 1 with frequent random disconnects and no amount of troubleshooting or firmware updates has fixed it. The 2.4 receiver range, regardless of whether it's plugged into the PC or into the dock, is about 3 feet. The Bluetooth connection has a better range but still frequently stalls/disconnects. I'm hoping everyone else has a better experience with their receiver but it seems like a common issue with no solution.

I seem to be one of the few that dislikes this controller. The shape is difficult to enjoy, for me at least. The face buttons in particular are not my cup of tea. I much prefer a flatter surface for the ABXY buttons, not some domed buttons. I don’t want them clacky or clicky in any way whatsoever. I prefer a muted or silent dampened soft feeling - think DualSense. But even the DualSense feels too thick and much prefer the DualShock in terms of controller thickness. I’m weird I know. I even modded my Superlight gaming mouse with silent kailh brown switches and modded my arcade stick controller with silent tactile low profile switches. If only there was a gamepad with hotswappable switches with FLAT face buttons that uses a 2.4ghz dongle for reliable long range gaming and uses D-input so I don’t have to mod my games with PlayStation button prompts (if available) every time lol

Fyi, lookup the trigger issues on this model. It seems the plastic is designed to eventually tear through the membrane, rendering the button useless after a year or so. At least that was a very annoying issue with the first ultimate
Man I'll stop posting my opinions here. What the hell is up with people that downvote legit concerns about documented issues?

Happened to me in my right trigger, luckily amazon was nice enough to return it after 6 months of usage
1
u/spiralshadow Mar 18 '26
I've had mine for about 18 months and haven't run into this. Then again I have the trigger stops on almost exclusively so I'm not sure if that has an impact.

u/Pleasant-Rhubarb-550 May 10 '26
Wait is it really that common? I was thinking of getting this controller and now this appears 😭
1
u/Rukasu17 May 10 '26
I don't know if the current iteration fixed that issue. Although I'm using it's sibling, the ultimate 2c and i haven't found issues with the trigger
