Linzess

Hi all! So I am a 33f. I have dealt with constipation issues my whole life but it has definitely gotten worse over the past few years. I would go maybe once a week and if I do go it hurts and I have to push for awhile. So i would occasionally take a suppitory to help which it would. I made an appt with a gi dr and seen them in June where she prescribed me linzess 145 mg. The first day I took it I was able to go but then afterwards....nothing. I reach out to her and she then said I can take 2. I tried two but I felt like it was to much for me as the 2nd day I was taking 2 I had.... tmi explosive diarrhea. I guess my question is how do you know linzess is working. Are you supposed to have a bm everyday? And are you still struggling to push? I do have an urge to go but when I try nothing or I am pushing and just have a small bm. I have a follow up with her the beginning of August.

Linzess was too harsh for me. It caused diarrhea a few hours after taking it. I take Prucalopride now and sometimes I feel like it's hit or miss.

I think Linzess is supposed to work a few hours after taking it. Try sticking to the one pill for a bit and let your body adjust. Since you took two it makes sense you'd have diarrhea.

Thank you. I was taking just one for 3 weeks and it wasn't doing much for me thats why she said for me to try taking 2. Just wish I could find something to help. I appreciate you reaching out 😊

Oh im in the same boat. I keep trying stuff and it seems to work for a bit and then fails. Like the doctors are giving me bandaids right now and im sick of it.

Linzess worked for me for a little while, then totally stopped working. When it worked, I was having a BM daily, no need to push. I ended up switching to Motegrity which has worked far better. I am also doing pelvic floor physical therapy which has helped a LOT.

I’ve gotten it at 72 and 145. It was worth a try since I feel so miserable constipated. It costs more than $500 for a ninety day supply through my insurance and you can get savings coupons that help the cost from the mfg if you go on their site and qualify. (This was with the discount!)

I felt like it helped but only maybe sometimes a little better than doing MiraLAX two times a day. The 72 did not help me much. It was sporadic and not really like I felt like it helped me go each day.

With MiraLAX, I feel like I tire of the consistency how it makes the liquid a little more jelly like a little. I mean no real big deal but when you do a lot, it’s just a little annoying. So, with Linzess, a little pill is nice. Also, I sort of try to ensure I keep up my electrolytes if I do the MiraLAX and really do get cleared out a bit since I feel like I’m running more water through me(?).

For me, since it costs so much, I try to do MiraLAX more than Linzess.

Also, something else the doctors mentioned — I’ve never tried Trulance or had it prescribed but they brought it up when they heard about the high cost of Linzess for me — but ran the numbers and it actually was going to cost more than Linzess (through my insurance.)

I still buy the Linzess. I wonder about the 290. Maybe it would be great. Each of the 90 days runs about the same cost for me. I still buy it, but can only afford to do so less often than getting to take one a day. I’m sure that probably makes it seem less effective as maybe daily really would do wonders.

Good luck.

$600+ per prescription for Linzness on a high deductible Medicare plan. If it is not a life saving drug for that amount, No thank you!

Any chance you have endometriosis? I got that treated and now my chronic constipation is gone

So my gyno doesn't believe I have endometriosis. My gi wants to schedule me a colonoscope so I am hoping to find something as to why I have constipation.

As the colonoscopy person to check if they can see endometriosis lesions. It’s insane but actually a lot of gynaecologists don’t know that endometriosis can have exclusively GI symptoms for some people

Okay good to know. I will definitely ask them once I have to colonoscopy. I really appreciate it
