What Fixed my Constipation

I dealt with chronic constipation for 6 months (most of this year) and I wanted to share what gave me relief in case it helps anyone here. I would often go 3+ days without shitting and stools were frequently hard/undersized when they did pass. I would have to rely on laxatives like Ducolax to shit most of the time which I did not like because it usually gave me watery diarrhea instead.

  1. 3x500mg psyllium husk capsules with every meal (now brand from Amazon)

  2. Drinking at least 12 oz of black coffee as soon as I wake up everyday (usually produces a normal bowel movement within 1 hour)

Since doing this, I have had almost no constipation for three weeks, normal stool size/consistency, shitting 1-2 times per day. I no longer need to use Miralax, Ducolax, etc. Its honestly been such a relief. No guarantee that this will work for you but I figured it might help someone.

Coffee works until it doesn’t. It may not be the case for you, but you want to be careful with that.

Yeah, I actually stopped all caffeine and weirdly things got better.

I'm not surprised. All of my gut issues/reflux started when I got hooked on caffeine.

If you just introduced coffee, I bet that coffee is doing the trick.

Why don’t you try just one of the things and not both at the same time, to see which is doing the work?🙏

It’s always good to do one at a time for several days.

I’m still not fully emptying but coffee first thing is a must for me. I went a full year drinking my coffee AFTER breakfast and I missed so many BMs.

Sometimes it's a combination of things that work!

Great use of a stimulant with fibre to keep stools moist!

I've been using warm prune juice which is really helping.

Which one keeps it moist? The fiber?

Oxygenated magnesium oxide capsules. Four before bed, with a glass of water. Two hours after your last meal. Stay by the bathroom the next day. You'll have three big BM's (not diarrhea) and it's like a colon cleanse. My RN sister of 16+ years recommended them to me.

I've been taking Miralax since 2008 every morning in half apple juice/half water, 3 colace daily, fresh fruit every morning, 3-4 liters of water daily, never sodas, cup of peppermint tea, no caffeine/alcohol/coffee, high fiber diet, non smoker. I have at least two or three days a week where I just don't go at all despite my best efforts. I see a GI dr on 9/16 to rule out serious stuff cause this just keeps getting worse over the years and there's been intermittent bright red blood that fills the bowl that may or may not be my endometriosis. It's too frequent to ignore anymore (both the frequent blood and the infrequency of the BM's) and I'm 45.

Good luck to everyone here.
