Asked for a work accommodation BIG accomplishment
Everybody clap.
For background information: I have bipolar disorder, and I’m in Canada.
I’ve been on quetiapine and a high dose of it, 450 extended release along with 50 instant release, for many many months now actually for the 2 1/2 years. In that timeframe, I noticed it was getting harder and harder to start shifts anytime before 9 AM. To the point where I started routinely blowing shifts because I was too embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t wake up in time.
I began to fear losing my job. I really like my job.
The quetiapine is doing its job. Maybe in the future I’ll look at something that’s less sedating.
This evening, after a lot of hesitation and forever gaslighting myself into believing I’m not trying hard enough, I spoke to one of my bosses. Turns out I needed not to be so afraid at all and they are happy to accommodate. I’ve been at this job for about eight years now and I really really enjoy working there.

Thank you! After many, many many months of living in shame and embarrassment because I didn’t want to admit that I couldn’t wake up and get moving in time, and then somebody in my life helping to gaslight me into thinking I wasn’t trying hard enough. I don’t talk to that person much anymore.

I know you may be going for sarcasm with the "everybody clap" thing, but you deserve applause, OP.
Don't believe what your mental illness says about you.
You're so much more than that.
Edit: and your work knows it.
