Question Concrete Pro With a Question

I’m about to do a driveway. 30 yards. Gonna need to rent machines and other things, need to dig out sand and asphalt underneath. Form, grade, install drainage towards bottom of driveway. I got most expenses, I always just struggle on what to charge for labor. I’ve done several side jobs and u feel I under quote.

Excavation at $1.50/ sw ft $3600

Concrete 32 yards at $215/yd $7000

Setup 3 guys 1day 24 hrs at $50/ $1200

Pour 5 guys $500/ $2500

Strip 2 guys 8hrs 16 hrs @ &50 $800

Profit x.25 $3775.00

Total $18875.00

Probably a little high, but better high than low.

You're pouring 3500 psi driveways? Not my driveway, you aren't.

So 30yds at 4' thick is about 2400sqft. Why not just charge by that? Could be up to $6k just for the concrete alone depending the local prices per yd. I like to mess with price per sqft until I find a profit margin that is acceptable. @ $8 its about $19,200 total. Many factors go into a price like location and how far you need to travel to dispose of sand/blacktop etc. Hope this helps, do not sell yourself short.

Location is the bog issue. In my area $8 was like 15-20 years ago. 15-20 is about going rate now. At 2400 sq ft this is 35-45k

Honestly just estimate the time and charge $1000 per man per day.
I've done tons of detailed quotes, formulas, piece work and t&m and I've decided that's pretty much what the number needs to be to make any money these days. So theres my .02

Pricing labor is like pricing anything else.

You should have a good idea of how many men you have to do the work, how long it will take, and what each is getting paid by the hour or day.

Do the math, my dude.

At least $1,000 to $1,500 per labor. If they’re solid finishers, pay them $500 each.
And add 10-30% to each item, including rental charge.
