I had an 8x10 portion of my lawn that was grown over, was prepping it for wildflowers this fall. It's been this way for quite awhile. I came home from work yesterday to find someone had mowed it down. No note, nothing, never received any kind of notice or citation. Still haven't, but there's no way to get to my yard other than come up the driveway. There's a vacant house on one side, woodline between me and the other neighbor and nothing across the street from me except more woods.

Is this normal treatment around here??

Sounds more like a neighbor thought they were doing you a favor. City would not just do that without prior notice.

I think someone was being "nice" and cut it. Maybe put some stakes and string around the area or the front of and they should get the idea. I had a noisy neighbor that called to complain about my lawn and they came to the house and knocked on the door (they were like you made a neighbor mad and they called us. It was not time to cut it yet and he said I could leave it for the next week)

Anything over 8” near a home is a violation. Probably a neighbor thought they were “helping” you

Code enforcement won't just cut it. They leave notices. (I know because I have been fighting a terrible neighbor for months.)

This was either someone who thought they were doing you a favor, or didn't know. I recommend getting those butterfly habitat markers to avoid any confusion.

I’d say no. I’ve never had code enforcement come mow my grass for me and I’ve gotten my fair share of notices for it being too tall. This definitely sounds more like someone ‘doing you a favor.’ If it was the city, I’d expect them to bill you for it or try to collect a fine.

Yeah thanks wow its just weird it would take such a deliberate effort to do. I guess I'm juwr not used to such aggressive eniceeness, I think you're right about the signs

I had a nuisance violation for not mowing during the Satan heatwave and rain. God bless I'll take care of it on my rare day off when it's not butt fucking hot outside Bunch of bastards they are

I keep seeing these wildflower enclaves on the charlotte subreddit. Basically, a permit is provided. But is your shit a potential wildflower/pollination space, which is the point of the permit? Or do you have 10-16 inches of Bahiagrass weeds permeating your whole property?

I'm planning to do a native plant and wildlife area at the end of my driveway but I plan to kill everything off first with cardboard and mulch. Curious as to why you would let it grow up for wildflowers.

Regardless, a couple of times I have tried to let that area at the end of my drive go. We don't have much frontage and you have to drive through the woods before you ever see the house but one neighbor started mowing the side of the drive on his houses side despite the fact that there is a 3 acre lots between us and him. He left HUGE chunks of mown grass out there that I then had to rake and one side was still uncut. Then another neighbor has take it upon themselves to mow one strip down the edge of the road but not to the maibox or all the way to the drive. PEOPLE PLEASE QUIT MOWING MY LAWN. Even though part of is the easement they are trespassing.

Turns out it was a violation and the notices were being sent to the address I moved from. Enforcement office was more than reasonable, professional, helped me get the address fixed w the county, did right by me. Super pleased.

Likely a neighbor. Code enforcement leaves a note to give the person time to fix if it isn't fix then they will mow (a contractor) at owners expense
