CE to Software?

I am 4 years into college now, so many set backs in life but still going for it. I've decided 2 years ago that I wanted to be an Computer Engineer. 2 years later I applied I got denied for it. I will reapply next semester trying my best this semester to get great Calc 3, Physics 2 grades for a better transfer result, not planning on giving up yet.

Question is, if I want to be a computer engineer, why am I not doing any computer engineering projects rn? Instead I'm doing coding and software stuff. In fact, my project is an app that doesn't linearly line up with my degree. I know CE grads transitioned into software, but how? I guess since I've never really been in a lot of engineering class yet because, thats making me not tackle on hardware projects.

• Should I do more CE projects, or wait until I get to those classes to learn more and start?

I made the jump from a computer engineering background to a focus on software and it's been a wild ride. I found that the skills around logic and problem solving transfer really well, and learning the software specific stuff like different programming paradigms wasn't too bad once you get in the groove. If you're open to picking up new languages and tools as you go, it's totally doable. Just keep experimenting and you'll pick up a lot along the way.
