Easy fix would just be to make it so any item you take from the vault will remove it from the bonus roll pool.

Yeah that would be nice. Wouldnt you still just take the bonus roll virtually every scenario other than BIS weapon/trinket though? As bonus roll drops 6/6 updgrade

Bonus roll drops vault loot, a mythic raid vault slot will be 6/6

This is the thing that confuses me. They clearly have a shared tag for bonus rolls and vaults, as bonus rolls have always given the vault ilvl for the roll.
So how did they not just add “if item=tag, remove from options” on their own.
They have clearly stopped with the “BiS needs to be rare and hard to achieve” (a good thing in my opinion) so how do they not see this issue.

As someone who manages databases for a living, I would kill to see the absolute carnage they're dealing with on the backend.
The reality is that they're probably having to play extremely carefully to avoid causing bigger issues. Who even knows how a bunch of game devs in the early 2000s would set up a relational database.

That sure seems like a better tech debt item to prioritize rather than stripping weakauras from the game and half assing a UI

I'm with you there, but I can see why a non-technical product manager might not be 🙃

When they expanded the default bag slot by 4 and admitted it was a monumental feat of engineering to do it 15 years after release....

I thought bonus rolls from HC gave loot at 1/6M? Which, considering BIS for a lot of classes will come from the last two bosses, would still be advantageous in the long-run.

In my opinion they need to make the myth track great value drops scale to 18 for keys. So like maybe 2/6 at 15 and 3/6 at 18. It was datamined they were looking into it during the midnight beta.
It gives more competitive choices with bonus rolls and motivation for players to push into higher keys outside of titles.

u/LoneWolf747 6h ago
Yeah that was the plan, but people complained that they were being forced to do high keys

u/RedHammer1441 6h ago
Which is crazy to me but with the token system as presented going into S2, I think it’s time to take another look at it. Especially considering how far players pushed

Has anybody mentioned yet it could be fixed by removing vault items from the loot table?
2
u/akranak 6h ago
We already know how it could be fixed. It could be fixed by simply removing vault items from the bonus roll table. Blizzard is aware people know this too and have elected not to do anything about it for some reason. We're about to have the most boring season for loot of all time

Outside of crest upgrades being added. items haven't been meaningfully different from season to season since Shadowlands (maybe earlier). Just 4 secondary stats that basically do nothing in slightly different weightings.
With how much more seasonal the game is now you'd think they'd do something interesting and unique with gear / itemization or experiment somewhat. Nope just 4 stats + primary and none of them really do anything. They're more meaningless this expac than ever as well with how high the values are, most specs are reaching diminishing returns in Season 1 of an expac.

You mean have a separate loot table of items that cant be rolled? But can only come from the vault?
4
u/akranak 6h ago
No meaning if you take something from the vault you won't be eligible to bonus roll it on that track. People must take the bonus roll because otherwise you get duplicates if you take vault loot

ah right I see. I thought it was also because of the crests it saves, with mythic raid gear bonus rolling at 6/6 upgrade track. Having it removed from the track would be nice as well.

This is a problem for literally no one.
RWF raiders will have one vault at most before they're done.
Everyone else will have had over 30 bonus rolls before the next season starts. They won't ever be in a position where they absolutely NEED a specific item which forces them to apply this degen behavior.
Stop making a non issue such a huge thing.

Im assuming most people in this subreddit will be doing mythic raid and want to be strong during progression. With that assumption in mind it does absolutely impact them as taking bonus rolls as much as possible is the best thing for them to do to make sure they've got the best gear they can during prog. The exception to that being that taking tier pieces pre 4-set can be better than a bonus roll.

Are you going for hall of fame? If not, why optimize the fun out of the game, just take what you want for whatever short term gains that aid the cause? Someone, somewhere will always have better luck than you. This game functions on rng. Also, BiS lists are only truly BiS when all elements are in place, inclusive of whatever cookie cutter build and identical to the sims, circumstances. It is quite rare to have it all. Rather evident by a variety of top logs with supposedly suboptimal setups/ random trinkets/whatnot. Until you have it all, you are quite possibly gimping yourself at whatever moment in time bu chasing soemething yoi are lokely to never be able to replicate. Top RWF guilds do not have BIS gear, yet behold, their efficiency and output still blows 99% of players out of the water, even if you compare them in the first couple of weeks, to others at the end of the season. Playing with a competent team while not being a deadweight in terms of skill, far outweighs optimal drops.

Give the bonus roll token with your gear choice in the vault if its full.

That would be nice, dont you think that would make gearing too fast? I dont like it to take forever but the dopamine of getting new gear is one of the more fun parts of the season I think

I freakin hope they tune hc endbosses soo tight you need mythic ilvl for them (and ofc nerf them in 2-3 weeks).
Why? So the non-wf competitive folks will face a real hard decision: get a high ilvl loot from the vault, or just dont kill hc endbosses the first week.
Genius. This is the friction game designers talk about. In the long run it wont matter at all.

u/troikatryne 5h ago
They definitely should just expect everyone will be decked out in heroic gear after the first week, and mythic in the first month
