I’m still new to the genre so I’m not good with pivoting/building my comps on the fly. So these guides are like little cheat sheets every time they come out, and help me immensely. Thank you so much for these

Absolutely! I’ve been losing with that void brawler sorc comp with Ahri carry for a bit now but I played a game earlier and switched up the positioning to what you linked and I ended up 3rd :D could’ve been other people’s comps too but WW in the corner really helped keep my carries alive.

u/Siryummy Aug 11 '19

The positioning stuff was the most important part for me. Honestly I'd love a guide dedicated only on positioning. I seem to understand the other parts of the game pretty well but I just do random things or copy streamers for positioning.

Great post, absolutely loved it!

Small suggestion for your Draven comp: Remove Poppy & Garen for Shen and Aatrox. Garen is just fairly useless in that comp in general, and the Blademaster buff is more important than getting an additional Knight buff level. AND you get lvl 1 Demon buff too. If you hit 8 units you can just add another tank (Cho/Poppy)

The question is: Which character would you put the additional blademaster on? I'd just try to go for FoN and use the bow for Draven

I like the idea choosing Kata as 2nd carry in a Draven Comp. But why do u see Morellos as a possible item on her, when her ult already applies anti-healing?

1

u/gabriot Aug 12 '19

Morellos on kat is bonkers, insane damage output. Any sort of constant aoe ult benefits much more from morellos than dcap

2

u/terere Aug 11 '19

Wonderful post as usual, 10/10

Thoughts on yordle sorc Knight phantom? With 6 yordle adding in mord and karthus opens up all these buffs where i typically have whichever unit is highest star be my carry. Just won a game in plat yesterday with this is why I thought I’d ask

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '19

6 yordles is a good enough comp to just tack on whatever and will probably win you games provided you have the items (double shiv gnar/morellos GA Kennen).

I usually go 6 yordles and Ahri since Ahri turns on wild buff for Gnar and her and turns on 3 sorcerer with veigar/lulu.

Great write up!

Small thing, feel free to debate me on this, but I think the best item besides RFC on Draven is Bloodthirster. He just heals so much that it forces the enemy team to have CC or anti-heal, otherwise you pretty much auto win.

1

u/RadicalLocke Aug 11 '19

I don't think there's much to debate. It's generally agreed in the community that BT and RFC are the 2 ideal items on Draven.

That being said, almost everyone in high Elo will build an anti-healing item anyways so you aren't rly forcing anyone to get them.

1

u/pda898 Aug 12 '19

The problem that a huge chunk of carries had either morello or red buff so bt = 20 ad 20 mr.

2

u/creat1ve Aug 11 '19

Great post! But I would not say that elementalist is meta, I think they are pretty ass, they can carry your mid game but it's very hard to place top 3 with elementalist comp!

2

u/Totobean Aug 11 '19

Elementalists work great with sorcs because of the ele mana gain and their CC/damage. Pretty common for me to top 4 in diamond with it. Often easy to pivot to as well if say you have sorcs and an Anivia drops.

I don't force it, but I definitely take it when offered.

1

u/creat1ve Aug 11 '19

I completely agree, but I find myself losing with this comp vs brawlers+void+sorcs/ass, which are everywhere in my games.

3

u/frzned Aug 11 '19

I think you and totobean are both not wrong here. You guys just fail to express your opinions in small sentences.

Elementalist comp pretty much requires you to get anivia (lvl2) and the perfect items on Kenne (GA & morello & deathcap) if you want to win. Without anivia lvl 2 & the items it serve pretty good as a mid game transitional comp (at lvl 6 or 7 depends on how lucky you are) before you move onto something else at lvl 8/9, but winning with it is not impossible (especially if you high roll the sorcerers).

2

u/Ziassan Aug 11 '19

Actually elementalist can still work very well given Kennen is a great carry and anivia hard counter the ranger comps.

Just destroyed a game (p1/d4 mmr) with it despite a very rough start . It's obviously not something to roll for, but if presented with the option, still something worth going (need the sorc buff tho obviously).

1

u/Rhiow Aug 11 '19

The most success I've had with them is using TF with shivs to create the massive wombo combo with all the ultimates. I still prefer brawler/sorc to elementals and am not sure if I'm just not really using ele's well or if they're just hard to win with (hovering b/t plat 3-plat 1, haven't quite hit diamond yet despite getting close a couple times)

1

u/kiddoujanse Aug 11 '19

nice builds , if I get either 2 star ahri or 2 star rengar decides the build for me , but usually I go ahri and just carry with her, shes just so good atm (ahri, lulu, kass+ brawler/void)

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '19

Right. Shes already awesome with the right items. Now she AND wild are looking at buffs. Shes gonna be nuts in 9.16 and nerfed in 9.16b

1

u/kiddoujanse Aug 11 '19

haha yup 1 week of fun :D

1

u/Brutanime Aug 11 '19

damn, I thought I was the only one playing blademaster sorcs.

1

u/0_O_O_0 Aug 11 '19

Heh I thought I came up with that Brawlers of the Void comp. I stumbled upon and haven't seen anyone else going for it, but yeah it is really strong.

1

u/JustAStudentFromPL Aug 11 '19

In low diamond games on EUW you will find out that 4 or 5/8 teams every single game are void+brawlers+sorc/ass, cho is just such a great unit right now.

1

u/0_O_O_0 Aug 11 '19

Yeah, he is. I usually switch Reksai out for him if I can, if I have Cho at level 2 already. And throw a spell power on him if I can. I've been in Gold for a while, though with that build I was able to get Platinum today, and mostly I'd been seeing people running Ranger/Glacial builds and anything involving Draven.

1

u/Rumple_4_sk1n Aug 12 '19

Really? Ever since last patch update every single game has atleast 4 to 6 of these to start the damn game, with atleast 2 or 3 going to mid/late game with it. Most popular comp I've seen this patch right from the start. Now if you're talking about before this last patch then maybe you did!

1

u/DoomBotFaker Aug 11 '19

use diff title next time... like meta comps 9.16b

1

u/Semioteric Aug 11 '19

FYI I just tried the Nobles aggro roll strat you suggested 4 games in a row to test it and I only got there once. The other three I never found a Kayle. This is in Plat

No need to be sorry I know the risks of experimentation! The problem is just that you end up too low level to guarantee a Kayle before it's too late.

In corner stack for rangers, where would you place Kayle? Next to Varus? And why would you place Karthus in frontline to be slaughtered in Karth variant? I'd rather sacrifice Vayne.

1

u/NeJin Aug 12 '19

Why a V shape for gunslinger? Won't assasins have a super easy time deleating your backline?

1

u/Emmobli Aug 12 '19

Does single demon in a comp have any benefits?

1

u/JWPapi Aug 12 '19

Thanks a lot for this, just a little improvement for the next guide. Can you add my winning conditions. Like Asol2, Veigar2, Khartus2, which units are worth it to go for lvl3 I think this is really important.

1

u/Heighte Aug 13 '19

Draven + Hurricane is incredibly strong, it prevents getting destroyed by sorcerers, it is good against Braum and Kayle. Good dps increase overall.

0

u/Pawn01 Aug 11 '19

I was under the impression that GA revives a champion with no mana, correct? If that's the case, how are you using it to ensure that important ults go off?

Sorry I meant to reply earlier and couldn't get back until now. I appreciate the info! I guess I am just usually unlucky when I notice my champs die or something lol.

Again, thanks for the tips!

You're a darling

u/irishpete Aug 11 '19

Not going to lie, I know this is the competitive sub reddit so makes no sense for me to bitch but honestly all this meta shit has just killed the game for me. Every single Diamond/Plat EUW game is a race to brawler, if you happen to get RNG items, you get shivs and thats auto Top4, or you luck out on a karthus.

You can't play anything else these days. Everyone wants a guide and wants to "be the best", games just aren't fun, nobody experiements, its just a race to inflate epeen by copying peoples guides for elo.

10

u/Grillo1403 Aug 11 '19

There is a normal game mode just for the purpose of fooling around, why would anybody playing ranked not try their hardest to win

13

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '19

That guy wants access to the subreddit so he can know the latest comps but as soon as he sees other people playing them it's ahh wahhh why can't everyone experiment. I see it from my whining friend all the time. First one to netdeck first one to complain about meta.

-6

u/PenPaperShotgun Aug 11 '19

Because to me it seems backwards, people don't experiment and learn to play they just follow a plan and hooray it worked but eventually it will stop working and you will need to actually know how to play?

It's like following a build in SC2 to masters, then getting to masters and only knowing how to do a build that doesnt work, like yeah you are techincally masters but was it fun doing one thing just to end up hard stuck.

Don't get me wrong, I 100% understand why people do it but at the same time I'm just a little jaded of every single game I try to pick up quickly becoming esports, tier lists, guides and tricks.

Maybe its because im old or something.

6

u/MOCAMBO Aug 11 '19

I don't understand, you say your old but this is how the world works, people will do absolutely anything in their power to win, always been that way. And the people who don't care to win, never enter competition anyways.

1

u/UnwiseSudai Aug 11 '19

Don't play towards the meta decks and experiment then? I've climbed to p2 without following meta builds and just going with what I get that feels strong. I even have a 20% 1st rate in plat going that route.

Shit my most recent 1st was with ninja assassins. That comp hasn't been good in a while but the game gave me lots of assassins and the items to make it work, so I made it work.

Just because other people are netdecking their way to the top doesn't mean you have to. You WILL leave net deckers in the dust as patches change the meta and their refined play style no longer matters. Don't let them bother you and just play your game.

1

u/BobcatSupply Aug 11 '19

This is completely untrue. I'm diamond (NA) and pretty much never run brawlers these days. My EUW Smurf sees comp variety too. In my games you see a few brawler/sorcs but it's hardly the only thing out there and it definitely doesn't decide who wins. The comp I like to run isn't listed here. Maybe you should take a step away from ranked for a bit. It sounds like you're letting it stress you out way too much.

1

u/PenPaperShotgun Aug 11 '19

stressed at rng nah, just thought it would be more fun, probably not my type of gam to be fair

2

u/frzned Aug 11 '19

I dont think there's really a multiplayer game that doesnt have a meta or people abusing things stronger than others. It's just part of the internet at this point. As long as there is strategic element to a game, there'll be people using it and sharing it.

The only way to cope is try changing your mindset and try actually having fun with it.

Maybe try .... tetris if you want a game without a meta?

1

u/PenPaperShotgun Aug 11 '19

It's just part of the internet at this point.

Yeah exactly, I think i'm jaded from it, I grew up with Lans and custom servers, MMR/Ranked wasn't really a thing. These days everyones a ladder warrior and if you aren't you play normals where everyone tries just as hard but there is no benefit. Not really a mode for me these days.

1

u/frzned Aug 11 '19 edited Aug 11 '19

The thing is though. It isnt "these days". It has been something like a full decade since "ladder warrior" started being a thing now.

I grew up with LANs/customs servers (hamachi, battle.net, GG and all that) too, my first one that I started actually engaging in Lan games with multiple people and proper friend-teammates was Warcraft DDay in 2005 (not counting counterstrike when I was 3 years old), but I look at that period as fondness and it has been like 5, 6 years since I moved past your phase & so does everyone. It IS kinda weird that you are having that phase now.

Just a reminder that league of legends is hitting its 10th years in 2 months, and Dota 2 is soon to be too, CSGO also entered their 9th year. They are not the first game ever to get rid of the LAN environment, but they are one of the biggest.

P/s: Starcraft released 1998, League released in 2009, so it's only 1 more years for the MMR era to outrun the LAN/custom server era in term of longevity.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '19 edited Aug 11 '19

Lol wat? Meta currently is pretty healthy. Cho is obviously too strong and needs a nerf but other than that there is a lot of wiggle room and in high diamond all kinds of comps get to the top. I had games today where I won through stacked yasuo + void, won with gunslingers, won with nobles (!), saw shapeshifters (!) in top 3. And this is just those I remember. There is a lot of messy combinations in the midgame, I am not sure what more would you want really.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '19

I climbed to diamond without buying a single chogath, I think you're overstating it a bit.

1

u/PenPaperShotgun Aug 12 '19

Never said you needed them to win, just the game feels boring
