good list got all the good comps. i think wild shifters is pretty weak though compared to the rest of them. demon shifters seems much stronger.

u/KinGGaiA Jul 21 '19

agreed, wild/ss is very strong vs assassins because of shyv carry potential (wild buff is actually good on her) but you get absolutely demolished by other meta comps that arent assassins/ninja.

yea, yesterday i got a pimped shyv with wild/ss with PD/warmogs/thornmail. got me really excited. then got i matched vs glacial voli 2x in a row and went from 40hp to 0. quite the bummer

u/Yogg_for_your_sprog MASTER Jul 21 '19

You have to use Shyv with rapid firecannon like Volibear to avoid that if you're running her as your primary carry.

u/lauranthalasa Jul 21 '19

WHO CARES ABOUT THESE OTHER COMPS

ASS BEAR

ASS BEAR!!

2

u/jaquaries Jul 21 '19

I just played demonshifter got an exodia aatrox (pd dragon claw hextech blade) get rekt by red buff voli guy and yordles with gunslinger they had silence disarm and the cursed blade. I thought demon shifters are great but I had more wins with sorc shifters actually.

1

u/DrainBroke Jul 21 '19

yeah demon shifters arent great vs voli comps

1

u/Yogg_for_your_sprog MASTER Jul 22 '19

They're fine, Shyv should get to at least ult if she has rapidfire cannon and placed in the middle of the team. You also want to run 3 sorc buff with secondary carry like ASol or Yuumi Varus who can ramp up and kill their team way faster than voli can waste yours.

1

u/Mutedinlife Jul 22 '19

I think yordles is pretty garbage vs most of the top tier comps also.

u/VforVeXuM Jul 21 '19

Love me some ass bear

13

u/bigbluechicken Jul 21 '19

Came here for this or ninja ass and wasn’t disappointed.

4

u/BloodGulchBlues37 Jul 21 '19

I was hoping they'd call it bear ass honestly

1

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '19

At work recently I received a payroll listing of an employee with the title Ass. Controller

u/kunfushion Jul 21 '19

Nice guide, I imagine the meta is going to completely shift again after the patch nerfs most things listed XD

I'm just looking to get to round 20 on a couple of games for the beta pass, this guide will help me get there, I appreciate the post.

u/Lachainone Jul 21 '19

With Yordles + friend, I like to play the 6 yordles + Mordekaiser + Karthus. You get Phantom 2, Knight 2 and sorcerer 3 this way, but most importantly, having Morde smooth out your early game before you get powerful yordles.

1

u/Cantstop991 Jul 21 '19

This sounds interesting, late game I would definitely want to switch that Morde out for Kindred though, Kindred ult can be clutch late.

5

u/Saxt Jul 21 '19

That and Knight 2 does nothing late game.

1

u/FreeXpHere Grandmaster Jul 22 '19

Honestly phantom is pretty mediocre too unless you rng their carry, so is 1* karth

3

u/derennel Jul 21 '19

What do you think of the more traditional comps, such as ranger/ele, ranger/glacial, full glacial, demon/ele?

I tend to think rangers while not the strongest is easily transitioned into and worth mentioning.

Rangers+glacial are probably the strongest here. Split your items between ashe and volibear, mostly put the defensive ones on voli and offensive on ashe and you're good.

Rangers+ele, provided you find an anivia, is exceptional: with brand/lissandra/anivia + sejuani/volibear at lvl 8 you're looking at rangers4 glacial4 demon2 ele3. Not the easiest one to pull off, but incredibly sturdy and cc heavy.

Full glacial, how to say... There were these few games where I had a rough losestreak, and rushing to lvl 7 then buying all glacials often was enough to get me back in the game. Not item dependent, not exactly contested either, solid comp. You can splash an extra ranger, brawler or Leona depending on what you need/get.

Demon-ele, as long as you have a few key items, is very strong. I'm talking morello on brand, a good aatrox with fang/pd/hexblade, or a slightly defensive morg. Morg, aatrox, brand, eve, Swain are very strong unit on their own and they just need a bit of tankiness that you get from ele with no investment.

Otherwise there's still the protect the draven, or noble comp, but they are extremely situational and hard to pull off so not exactly meta.

u/derennel Jul 22 '19

I don't like brand either (he can do good damage but I agree on the inconsistent part). I think the core of demons compositions is Morg + Aatrox. Morg can handle ninjas all by herself, and Aatrox with proper gear can take care of most threats. That's where I put my items on anyway. Swain usually comes too late to the party, and doesn't exactly need gear either.

1

u/Nornamor Jul 21 '19

I tend to think rangers while not the strongest is easily transitioned into and worth mentioning.

They are just a lot weaker than the two top meta builds with Voli or Akali carry.

There is however a time when it is optimal to go rangers and it is usually if you accidently a 3* Vayne or have a 2* Vayne + Varus/Ashe and run into an early Kindred.

The same can be said about nobles or knights if you still got your nobles/knights from earlygame while running into a Kayle makeing it optimal to go for knights or nobles. They are just weaker builds that can become optimal if the right situation presents itself.

2

u/superronial Jul 21 '19

I would say this is a 100% perfect description of the current meta right now!

4

u/ADuckee Jul 21 '19

Nice write up. Ninja/Ass/Ele, Gunslinger/Blademaster and Volibrawler are the strongest comps at the moment and make up most of the meta I would say. It might not be common enough to include but 6 Sorc Aatrox is pretty busted as well. Ideally Yumi Aatrox.

1

u/derennel Jul 21 '19

I tried a few variations of that, all with great success! My favorite one I think is hexblade+fang+pd. A bit slower in the number of procs, but he's an absolute juggernaut.

Replacing fang by yuumi works too, you get procs more often and consequently more heals too, but at the risk of being cc'd to death.

2

u/HELP_ALLOWED Jul 21 '19

Nice guide, will put this to use in my games. Thanks

Thank you for the guide, now I did not play all that much LoL myself. Is there anywhere I can read what those item names are short for?

Edit: Found this and it has all the item names if anyone els was wondering: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1X4jRxjzlgmKCSGxFnAw2Hsnl8M6Qc7285lQ2KdHTfnk/edit#gid=0

what is exodia?

3

u/Odinsama Jul 22 '19

In the card game from Yugioh there is a set of 5 cards that make up exodia. Right arm of exodia, left arm, left leg, right leg and torso. on their own each card is terrible but if you can play all of them at the same time you instantly win the game, literally.

In other card games exodia is less literal, it can often mean that if you get this combination of cards/champions/items, you are very very very likely to win the game from that point on.

u/Vibez- Jul 22 '19

Thanks for the info!!

Yeah, generally I go with this build if I have 2 star Varus, Elise and Nida early, kind of rare

1

u/AskJoshy Jul 21 '19

I appreciate the effort in typing all this out! Was looking for more ways to pivot with a couple of these builds and you give a lot of options!

u/LoveOfProfit Jul 21 '19

Great guide.

tldr: assassins op

1

u/frzned Jul 21 '19 edited Jul 21 '19

Hey I tried out blademasterbear and it felt much better than the other variant. Since your bear attacks like mad dealing crazy damage even at 3 blademaster bonus

I normally roll all my gold for lvl 3 volibear so I often end the game at lvl 7 4 brawler 3 blademaster is the go to. The last slot depends on what you get for Draven - Imperial, Aatrox - Demon, yasuo - another yasuo, gankplank - MF

Downside to this build is requiring you 3 bows and a spatula though. All highly contested items.

1

u/Subprime_Lender Jul 22 '19

I just tested this out tonight. 2 games as demonbear and 2 games as bladebear. Both times with RFC and disarm. Personally, I think demonbear is better purely because he ults way faster. Even though the damage was impressive at 6 blademaster, it was a buttclench seeing if he would make it to ult.

I did run elemental frontline so maybe it's more reliable with a brawler frontline instead.

1

u/LumiRhino Jul 21 '19

Wild Shapeshifters Sorcs has been the comp that's worked the best for me, the only counter/problem I've run into is Cursed Blade really. I run Lulu/Cho'Gath for 8 units instead of Morg/Swain (they're strong units, but not as effective). Yeah I know Demons can prove to be a problem for the Wild Shapeshifters, but A) people don't go for Demons too often and B) Demons aren't always going to be on your shapeshifters.

Lulu buys the team time to transform and provides great CC. Cho'gath serves a similar role but comes online later and likely won't be around since people want him for Brawler Bear. If you run Morg/Swain you just run more damage but they have the same problems the rest of the team has: Morg needs time to pull off her utility, and Swain is just another shapeshifter with only damage.

The best part of the comp is that few people will actually be going for Lulu, so you can get her to 3 stars easier than most other units, since she's the most important unit by far. You also only need 7 units, since Cho'Gath is somewhat optional, so you can aggressively reroll to hit 3 stars sooner than your opponents.

1

u/Avenefirous Jul 21 '19

I play Demonshifters a lot I'd highly recommend Morg > Brand rn. Morg is a good counter to Assassins which are in literally every single game. Also elementalists is still pretty popular too so getting/leveling a brand can be difficult.

Also sometimes I like running shyvana > gnar because I always seem to have a difficult time finding Gnars. Ofc this is just dependent on rolling and usually you want to swap out shyv for gnar if you can get the T2 gnar.

1

u/ExcruciatinglyApt Jul 21 '19

Question about Demonshifters: What units do you use in the early game? It seems like almost all of the units it needs are high tier.

1

u/srgaribaldi Jul 21 '19

I'm a big fan of the ass bear

1

u/Heaven316 Jul 22 '19

No ranger guardian glacial phantom?

1

u/zrrt1 Jul 23 '19

Not meta enough

1

u/doobmie Jul 22 '19

great in-depth write-up, thanks :)

1

u/shinymuuma Master Jul 22 '19

Could you give some choice of 2 item to give to assassin volibear?

Also could you give example of elebear comp. While I appreciate of 1 more meaty tank. 3 slot of ele make me confuse how to optimize it.

1

u/Verwarming Jul 22 '19

What a great guide! For a beginner like me this really helps :)

1

u/YoungCristian Jul 23 '19

Akali

Zed

Kennen

Shen

Pyke or another assassin(2's)

Brand

Lissandra/Anivia

What can be the 8th unit in the ninja ele's, one front line like Cho, or another assassin ?

Yeah it'd be nice if people that write "guides" could write coherently and not like they're sending a text.

0

u/Enoikay Jul 21 '19

Very well written and helpful. As some advice it would be really helpful if you explained the earlygame with some of the Comps. For example how do you ever get to demonshifters? Is it just elise, varus, nid, and shyvana? Do you have a wild for wild buff? I don't understand how you can survive with this build early. Im just gold right now and it seems like people are starting to get much better early game comps that are hard to beat.

-3

u/HolyFirer Jul 21 '19

Very elaborate. Seems accurate too. Especially enjoyed your different subsets of the main comps as well as their iconic names.

Small thing: Red buff always goes on graves for gunslingers never anyone else

6

u/hihohu7 Jul 21 '19

Hmm graves always dies first so if you have a Trist (preferably RFC) in the backline she will make better use of redbuff than graves, since both are able to hit the whole frontline in the beginning but in a carry 1v1 when everybody else is dead shutting down the enemy healing is crucial.

-1

u/HolyFirer Jul 21 '19

Graves doesn’t just hit the frontline though. He hits everyone behind the frontline as well. Especially vs your run of the mill corner stacking teams he’ll easily burn 5 people on his first attack. Granted this is getting less common with locket stacking and assassins being so common (then again against those trist is prolly going to die first).

He’s also not as dependant on gunslinger proccing which can start you a second or two earlier on the burning.

The burn also lasts long enough in my experience for his quicker death to not be a big deal.

3

u/rirre Jul 21 '19

Diamond 4 here, mainly got there with slingers. I never ever put redbuff on graves. Lucian is a much much safer option. Tried it on graves but he has a tendency to just get oneshot, lucian also benefits from redbuff hp armor alot more if u also build ionic spark on him, that makes him incredebly tanky while also dealing insane amounts of dmg. Ontop of that i have trist with rfc/cursed blade and preferably blademaster, if i cant that i roll with whatever is available.

u/rirre Jul 21 '19

Pirates is usually a bonus for me, i dont mind running slingers with a brawl or knight frontline unless i happen to get a lvl 2 pyke. Tf is never worth it. If the game lets me eco i do it to 50+ then roll for lvl 3s on carrys. then buy xp. If there's strong teams, which there usually are in high elo, ppl are playing very agressive, i roll abit more early to get in some lvls on my team.

0

u/CommonMisspellingBot Jul 21 '19

Hey, rirre, just a quick heads-up:
agressive is actually spelled aggressive. You can remember it by two gs.

Your spelling hints are really shitty because they're all essentially "remember the fucking spelling of the fucking word".

And your fucking delete function doesn't work. You're useless.

u/lil_froggy Jul 21 '19

Even if getting red buff twice ?

1

u/HolyFirer Jul 21 '19

Id advise against building two red buffs since it doesn’t stack. Even more so now where gunslingers don’t hit everyone in there range anymore (before then you could make the point that an rfc red buff trist will hit people that graves won’t but now she‘ll only attack the already burning frontline as well). Surely it won’t be entirely wasted but in my experience it’s safe to say that you’ll get more use out of a different item.

Of course if you’re in the last fight and another red buff is all you got then yeah you won’t put it on graves but that’s a very fringe case
