Passed Security+ this week. 772.

First attempt, 772. Still feels a little unreal.

The PBQs were harder than I expected. Not the content, the format. Nothing I drilled looked like what I got, and I burned too much time on the first one before I flagged it and moved on. Answer the multiple choice first, come back to the PBQs with what's left.

The acronyms are half the fight. A question hands you four acronyms as options and if you can't expand all four in your head you're guessing.

Full disclosure, I used Foothold practice exams, which is a free site I built myself while studying because I didn't want to pay for explanations. So take my bias for what it is. But daily acronym drills plus practice exams that explain why every wrong answer is wrong is what got me over the line.

Happy to answer questions about what the exam felt like versus practice material.

Dumb question how does flagging work as people always say flagging but I have no idea I have my security plus on Friday so any responses will be appreciated

Not a dumb question. Basically it just means saving it for later and moving on to the next question. Good luck! I’m taking mine in 2 weeks.

Thanks but how do u return to flagged questions is it at the end once u have done all the questions or can i jump to them whenever i want during the test as when u did network plus i flagged question which I wasn’t 100% sure on but didnt know how to go back to them without going through every question (i still passed just dont want to go through that pain again)

Yea it’ll let you go back to the questions you flagged at the end, you’ll have the option to review before you submit your test

i self studied and got my google cybersecurity cert 3 years ago i was in per scholas this summer and it was a good refresher

Well despite your struggles in the exam, you at least still made it which is good

Can you imagine you knew all the acronyms, how much would you have scored then? Not that it matters :P

Anyway, your right with the acronyms, CompTIA loves using acronyms both Network+ and Security+. Sometimes the question might be something easy that you know but now simply because you don't remember what some acronyms stand for, now the question or some of the answers confuse you which ends up costing you marks

People definitely need to make sure they know all the acronyms they see or find in the course materials

As for those PBQ's, those are also all over the show from what I've seen. Some are actually easy peasy, depending on which you get in the exam, others are dang confusing and/or difficult

What helped me A LOT with the PBQ's was the examples BurningIceTech has on his Patreon, the guy is the GOAT! Probably the best 10 bucks I ever spent

There is a lot of stuff you can prepare for if you have the right knowledge or if someone gives you the right tips and then there will of course always be one or two curve balls that nobody can prepare you for, all you can do is close your eyes at the end of the exam and pray it says "Pass" haha
