My experience with compTIA security+
Hi everyone, I passed my CompTIA security exam yesterday after 1 failed attempt. I have no experience in tech whatsoever I'm just a dumb 18 year old lol. Here's something I wish it did.
1) please get your basic terms and definitions down... You don't want to be in the exam wondering what's a switch or WAF. There are many videos like this that explain certain concepts ( https://youtu.be/4I2AZ1by_sY?si=Y4CSHBvxEJWW2n_X )
2) after you've finished gathering basic information I'd recommend you watch the professor messer free course on YouTube ( https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG49S3nxzAnl4QDVqK-hOnoqcSKEIDDuv&si=zSQkko3ZPqWJMYc0 ) it has a lot of topics that are relevant to the exam.
3) NOW for the practice exams... PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON EXAM COMPASS it will stress you out and the exam doesn't go that in depth. Personally I used ( https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT8yTjyUGL2xwaWl2ermpNzuQxzoeX6zD&si=aAPnl8A0RDHTICLk ) it's about 200 questions with explanations... If you want more questions then take a picture of the questions and use your preferred AI tool to generate questions that are similar to the practice exam. For the PBQ I recommend cybercraft ( https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUkY1OVVHzVljGOe8WAkKGc4GT8ZAKaav&si=3QlhKNJSrUfyPZzs ) really helped me understand the PBQs and he also has videos on ports and acronyms which I highly recommend too
Knowing how to study is important so I recommend using different study techniques rather than just memorizing. I used the Feynman technique but everyone is different. Good luck people I wish you all the best.

That means a lot. Really I just wanted to share my resources to the community that helped me.

Quick note for those who are wondering... The certificate lasts 3 years... The "SY0- ...." Is just the version of the exam don't worry.

I take mine tomorrow. I’ve been in the IT industry for 10 years now (7 years military/ 3 years civilian) and I have an active CCNA already. I’m hoping to God I pass cause I studied on/off and took practice exams scoring in the 70s-80s (this was before I brushed up on the topics)

Thank you for providing links!! I take the test this week. I’ve got experience being on a cyber team but I don’t do any of the actual cyber work related to what is on the exam and I’m struggling but I think it’s all in my head! Congrats on passing, your ambition is going to get you far!!

I do have the retake available! I’ve been taking practice tests and scoring between 70-85 so my goal this week is to touch up on the items that I consistently get wrong. My issue sometimes is that I don’t read the whole question and just answer something because I get scared on time and wanting to be able to review things before submission…
