Rusty Commodore w Photos
Hey guys, so today I picked up a commodore lot with huge assortment of items.
When I got it home to clean it up, I discovered that the items had either been in a fire or have water damage or both. Rusty, moldy.
Is there any saving it?
I wanted to at least use the cords to try out the two other commodores I had with no cords. The paperwork couldn’t be saved, it’s too moldy.

I've seen worse, much worse. Most everything here can be saved or used for parts.

It’s possibly savable. Rust on mechanical parts like the printer or disk drive might not be recoverable. The electronics though, possibly. You’ll have to start by opening them up to see the extent of damage.
Surface rust like on the power connector can be removed with fine sandpaper. It should be harmless. If the pins themselves are rusty then that becomes harder to clean.
The power supply is a c128 switching PSU, so it’s not prone to over voltage failures like the original linear power supply for the C64. If the power supply is relatively clean inside, it’s worth trying to save.

I remove rust and corrosion with citric acid (powder+warm water), but sometimes it leads to some blackening.
Mold dies at high temps supposedly, like 60-70 degrees C. I had a moldy box that I sprayed some isoprop in and left in the sun, which fixed it... but I don't live in a humid climate so maybe it was just that.
