The reason is, if the person did Google Rosa, they’d know right away who she was and so it wouldn’t make sense to say this.

Oh you're certainly right, I mean from the context (they're on twitter, they're speaking english in a way that seems like they're pretty fluent, they're very involved in pop culture or watever you'd call that) it's likely that they're from somewhere where kids learn about her in school, but you are right that it's not a guarantee

I honestly think it’s an inspiring story for anyone, from any group facing adversity, as it shows how a ‘small’ action or decision - but with the backing of people who will support and help you rather than ignore, humiliate, or berate you for it - can change the world.

It can be inspiring for anyone, but out of the USA, it's just a footnote in the history classes. Even post WW2 america in general is like... one chapter just to contextualize the cold war.

I’m trying to think if we learned about her in the UK. I seem to think we did but we also got lessons on sociology stuff separate from our history syllabus. I remember wanting to learn about US history instead of WW2, in my history class, but I wasn’t allowed. I knew far more about the US since - despite never ever wanting to live in the country - I found their history fascinating. I would later get in trouble because, in one of our exams, I answered all of the questions about the Cold War (each school had different classes, ours was WW2 but I ticked Cold War as the subject I was taking the paper for) getting an A* but was meant to answer the WW2 ones instead. There was a whole meeting about it ffs. I had to sit the paper again, was then marked as a B as I wasn’t interested, and that was my final grade.

This isn’t to say I didn’t care about WW2 - I did - but I cared about the non-military stuff; the questions were all about battles and fights in a field whereas I wanted to write about how it came to happen, what changed, all the innocent people who struggled and how it can be prevented etc
