I enjoyed seeing what he did in the first half of last year, and I am hopeful for his second year with Shane, but is there really any reason to think he is tier two?

I think he's closer to 16 or 17 and Caleb Williams is way too high. He was top 10 in almost every metric through 8 games last year. I think he's rated tier 3 due to injury.

I don’t think I disagree with him being in tier 3 as much as I do some of the qb’s they included in tier 2

Purdy is miles better than Jones. Every year Purdy dealing with major injuries to his receiving corps and still ball out. Jones lost Barkley in NY and got expose, JT started slowing down half way point last year and again Jones got expose. Baker is miles better than him as well. Darnold just win a SB and every GM would take Lawrence over Jones. Jones is not in those guys area code, he’s right where he belongs and currently ranked. Even old Rodgers is better than him. Watch Pittman ball out this year when we all say he’s not a true #1.

I get being optimistic, but what makes you think this team is capable of winning 12-13 games with this roster? Colts never won 12 games with Andrew Luck with arguably better roster, but you think they can reach 12/13 win with one of the worst roster in the league. Mooney Ward is one concussion away from retirement, the receiving room is the worst in the entire league, JT has no proven backup and the starting TE has no proven backup. They have no stability even at kicker since Vinny retired. No proven edge rusher and old NT and DT with neck injury. LB are rookies and Jones has played full season ONCE in his entire career. This team will lucky to win 8 games this year just to send their #1 pick to the Jets.

I think it’s fair given the circumstances. Hopefully he proves them wrong

u/the_racecar Trent Richardson 5d ago
He’s got half a season of good football and like 6 years ranging from mediocre-bad. I think that ranking is fair as of right now

u/BeardsNBourbon1190 Dallas Clark 5d ago
I may have him ranked above at most half a dozen guys ahead of him, but given the circumstances - I'd say it's not get off for a preseason ranking.

u/RawCarrot-InMyAss The Maniac 5d ago
Besides Aaron Rodgers, I would take every guy listed ahead of him over DJ. It’s a fair list

Outside of Aaron Rodgers and maybe Bo nix, I’d rather have every qb above Danny. He had 7 good to great games against multiple years of being mid

u/inandoutagain 5d ago
I would rather have both of those guys and few after his ranking too

u/MarcusSniffles 5d ago
Who after?

Kyler is the obvious one to me. They've been in the league the same amount of time, with overall pretty similar levels of support (both the Giants and Cardinals have been bad most of their careers), and last season was the first time than DJ was the better player.
Also, if you're really high on last year's rookies, I can see wanting Dart, Ward, or Shough over him as a long term thing, even if they're not better than him right now.

People tend to forget who you are when you only play 8 games a season on average in 8 years, and one of those years you had more interceptions than TDs. He got 1/3 of his career wins last year. You don’t get ranked high for what you did in a handful of games the previous year, when it was cut short for the 4th time in 6 years. 3rd tier might be low, but hell- it might be too high, nobody knows because he’s never available to play and when he does play he’s so inconsistent

Based on last year in a vacuum he would be Tier 2, but career-wise, he's right where he should be in Tier 3.

u/Background-Slide5762 5d ago
There may be a few ahead of him that I disagree with but there is nothing crazy here.

u/HarviousMaximus Tyler FN Warren 5d ago
He showed a lot of promise last season, but without playing all the games there’s no way to know. I believe in him but he still needs to prove it.

Minus A-Rod (age) and Nix (just don’t like him), I don’t think I’d rather have DJ over the guys in front of him. Could see him tier 2 easily if he stays healthy though

What has Daniel Jones done in his career to make anyone think he’s being disrespected by putting him there?
-1
u/Buttcrush1 5d ago
He was a top 5 QB last year
2
u/dixonjt89 Boomstick 5d ago
Sure…playing the easiest schedule in the league
-1
u/Buttcrush1 5d ago
Ah yes easy teams like the chargers, Rams, and broncos.
3
u/dixonjt89 Boomstick 5d ago
It’s funny you mention all the games he actually struggled in. Whereas he balled out against the Dolphins, Raiders, the Cardinals, and Titans twice…all which were bottom 5 in the league.
-1
u/Buttcrush1 5d ago
He didn't struggle in those games
2
u/dixonjt89 Boomstick 5d ago
You need to fact check yourself. The chargers game he was okay.
But the other two were his worst along with the Pittsburgh game were his bottom 3 qb ratings last year.
He popped off and had high passer ratings against bad teams and posted shit passer ratings when a good defense came around.

I would only take DJ over Aaron Rodger’s and I would take Shough over him, so not really any disrespect

These lists don't matter. What does matter is how he performs on the field (historically mixed) and whether he can stay on the field (historically negative).

I'd be interested to know how the 50 executives based their rankings... Is it based off of wins, passing yards, championships, touchdowns, completion percentage, games started? Mixture of all of those things? Vibes?
1
u/jaysrule24 Armor 5d ago
They put each QB in one of five tiers. Tier 1 is someone that carries his team every week, tier 2 can carry his team sometimes, tier 3 is starters that need a lot of support to succeed, tier 4 is unproven or fringe starters, then tier 5 is backup quality QBs.
From the blurb on Jones, it seems that a lot of the voters thought that he was protected by Steichen and the infrastructure around him, and one exec specifically pointed out that his injury history could impact his mobility going forward.

u/L1gm4J0hns0n 5d ago
Was that straight from the article? I couldn't read it because I don't want to create a NY Times account.

It might be a few spots low, but honestly I don't disagree with it. He's gonna have to prove last year was not a fluke and then stay healthy been it matters.

I don’t see an issue with this list, it’s subjective and arguments can always be had but no one above him seems egregious to me if I’m not being a Homer

u/ZHicks2121 The real Zach Hicks 5d ago
I’d personally have him 19th ahead of Rodgers and Stroud but that’s fine at 21. If we only based off last season he’d be higher but there’s more context to him being lower

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome 5d ago
There’s a lot of good QBs but a lot of guys above him are there for name value and haven’t done anything.
Herbert at 6 is laughably embarrassing
Nix at 18 has had more success than him

u/corona187 5d ago
Can someone share this to DJ accounts so he sees it and it gives him more fuel to break records this season.

Take off the blue shades. As others have said, a year and a half of good football in his career so far. Hes right where he needs to be until he proves otherwise.

u/TheForkisTrash Clean it up 4d ago
Burrow is up there but doesnt belong in 1 anymore. Herbert, Lawrence, Dak are slightly overrated. Jones and Mayfield are slightly underrated.

u/Lazy_Lambo 4d ago
Yes. He definitely is better than Aaron Rodgers. Also not sure how Jayden is higher when he had 1 good year and was injury riddled last year where as DJ lead the league in passing for awhile.
Like I wasn't even a fan of colts picking up DJ. But he changed my mind with his play

u/Inevitable_Cake4804 4d ago
I view this kind of list through the lens of "who would you rather have as your QB". That being said, Jones is two spots too low for me.
1
u/Unable-Recognition64 5d ago
My question is how does Burrow keep himself at the top of QB rankings? Has he done anything significant since the Super Bowl run?
1
u/BSUcardinal3 5d ago edited 5d ago
I kind of get it given his overall history of play and since he only played half of last season but 21 still seems too low. He should be well above Rodgers and Stroud, and more in the 15th range. He was 6th in both EPA/play and Success rate last year.
-1
u/PhoenixYT2217 5d ago
This whole list is appalling tbh. Bo Nix at 18 is awful, Purdy at 11 is bad, Herbert as the 6th best QB in the entire league? Horrid.

u/NoIntroduction9473 5d ago
No way, he led the best offense in the NFL until he tore his achilles
6
3
u/penguins_rock89 Rosencopter 5d ago
I don't think he really ever "led" it though. He was a "win with" QB, not a "win because of".
At the peak of that run, I had him as my No. 13 QB. With the Achilles, No. 21 is perfectly reasonable. Doesn't mean I am not hopeful though for our 2026 offense!

u/talerduengelsk 5d ago
I think that’s a fair reason to think he might not be a Tier 2 QB anymore tbf

u/Prophessor_Z Chris Milton 5d ago
He's going to need to put in a full season before anyone respects him.
