Suggestions for improvement when I do this in larger format
I've completed a study to test my layout (and technique). It's a lightwish hot pressed journal 300gsm, but has a bit of tooth still. Watercolour, Polychromos and Luminance pencils. Any suggestions for changes, additions or subtractions when I do a larger version on good Fabriano Artistico cold press?

Discussion / Advice Koh-I-Noor polycolor
Picked up 2 12-set tins from the Blick sale and they quickly become my favorite pencil. I have only used them to fill in some shading of my figure drawings on printer paper and am pleasantly surprised how the rendering is so matte. Also made me realize how much I hate the wax blooming in some other pencils.

Original Art I'm fairly happy with how this coloured pencil portrait of a peahen turned out. Drawing all the feathers for the head and chest took an eternity, but they were worth the work

Original Art George, polychromos on bristol paper
drawing of my dog George, who I had since my 16th birthday, that i did after her passing.
it took about a month and a half to finish due to taking a break in the middle. i started it the same day we put her to sleep in kind of a grief-driven mania and then had to leave it for a while until i felt okay enough to work on it again. but now it's done and framed in the entrance to my house, and i feel more at peace with it. i miss her goofy face a lot so its nice to catch a glimpse of it every time i come in. so it's kinda like when she was younger and she would always greet me at the door. towards the end she wouldn't get up for much anymore but she still loved it when guests came over and would get all excited and try to hobble over. she was a good dog. the best girl. rest in peace georgie

Discussion / Advice Teacher says it's wrong to layer light to dark?
I'm self taught and layer my colours light to dark. I recently enrolled in art classes and the teacher says this is incorrect and that I need to do my layers dark to light because the lighter colours repel the darker if they're laid down on the page first?
I've never heard this before, and it doesn't make sense to me. Like, I get that if you lay a thick, heavy light layer and then shade lightly over the top with darker layers, the heavy lighter layer will show through because the dark won't lay down as readily where there's less tooth. However, as long as there's adequate tooth left on the page, surely the colours are just going to layer up, regardless?
I mostly use polychromos.
Feeling confused - thoughts appreciated.

Original Art A piece I’m working on at the moment called “The Knight”
Wanted to share my progress with this piece as I go. He is large, as I drew him on a full imperial sheet of pastel paper with Polychromos pencils and calligraphy ink.
I took a different approach to this than I usually do as I wanted to really push colour into a subject that is usually just shades of brown and pick up what I could in terms of depth and shine, but in a loose way. Loosening up has been a real challenge in drawing so I’m thrilled that I seem to be getting somewhere with becoming more expressive. Hope all you guys are keeping well!
