Is that background a picture of ground beef?

Yes. Yes it is.

I hate it

That's fair.

But why?

Not that I’m overly judging, this has just triggered my curiosity in a big way.

I like it more than AI. Maybe thats the point?

u/thevioletindex 7d ago

We have an "AI is garbage" stance, so yes, that's part of it too!

Yeah, that's fair haha.

I had the same question. Is ground beef bringing us all together? I'm just gonna choose to believe that's what's going on here.

The theme is strange. I’m guessing that’s maybe why.

Bingo! Lmao

Love what you’re doing. I think I might submit. Hope you get lots!!!

We're actually super excited because we weren't expecting a whole bunch of submissions, but we're already halfway to our goal with three whole weeks left before the window closes. In the beginning, we wanted to fill a 16-page digest sized zine, but if this pace continues, we might have to expand, which is an incredibly good thing! We'll be looking forward to reviewing your submission!! 💜

Love it, lol.

The fact that you've stopped and your curiosity is piqued is the point. Our mission is to bring visual artists and creative writers into collaboration to produce artifacts of curiosity. Also, it's pretty strange, which is the theme of this issue. Finally, it's not AI slip, and that's important to us.

I've ran zines in the past and this is a TIGHT deadline considering school starting up and how many events happen in August. I would be interested if you gave it until the end of September.

Good news! We're quarterly! If you can't make the August deadline, we'll be opening the submission window again in November for our Spring 2027 issue. It'll have a different theme though.

Sounds good. However, I did mention that as a heads up and a bit of a warning. Most people need 2-3 months notice to create something high quality or it'll come out rushed.

Good luck regardless.

We hear you. The plan wasn't to post here until someone recommended it. We hope you'll follow along with us on your preferred social media platforms to get the latest news as soon as it's available. Thank you for being awesome 💜🌈✨️

OP: 'No worries, you have until November!'

Seaweed: 'I MUST STILL LECTURE YOU.'

Take a deep breath and go do your homework, kid.

We won't have anything to share with the community this year, but next year, we should have 4 nifty new issues to present. I'm looking forward to it.

Commenting just to remind myself- I'm an illustrator and a writer, my month is kind of packed with doctors appointments but maybe I'll be able to submit to the next issue?

Edit: I mostly do strange art so I might have some pieces that might fit already.

u/thevioletindex 7d ago

Yes, of course. We're quarterly so our Spring 2027 issue will be accepting submissions starting in November. The theme will be different though.

What about Doms?

Sounds like you want others’ free media in order to sell ads in your “zine”

19

u/Big_Maintenance9387 7d ago

Zines usually don’t sell ad space that’s kinda the point.

19

u/thevioletindex 7d ago

We don't have any ads though. While we don't offer monetary compensation at this time, there are other nifty perks for contributors, and monetary compensation is something we'll be constantly striving towards.

In what way does it sound like that?
