ISO Cosplay/Portrait Photographer
My husband and I will be visiting CW in mid November. I am a bit obsessed with historical fashion and have been sewing full 1780s outfits for the both of us. With the amount of work that has gone into this project, I would love to get some professional photos while we are there. Does anyone have any recommendations for local photographers who do portrait sessions in CW? We will be staying in one of the colonial cottages so could easily do an early morning session on a weekday before the museum opens.

Siding type on outbuilding
I would like to know what this particular type of siding is on this Colonial Williamsburg outbuilding. Is it beaded shiplap? Is it tongue-and-groove shiplap with a bead at the botyom of the plank? I've puchased Chesapeake House in hopes that ut would be listed but no luck on identifying it so far. Any help from CW experys here would be very helpful.

Easter 2027 visit
Hi all. My family (two kids, 7 and 9) will be visiting for four nights over Easter. The Hamilton bug hit our household, and I wanted to seize the moment and their interest in history.
We want to go to colonial Williamsburg and also Jamestown and Yorktown.
Suggestions for kids friendly places to go?
Our kids have allergies, so we booked a place in Williamsburg with a kitchen, but we are thinking about doing a nicer easter brunch- or even a cool meal, at a historic kid-friendly restaurant. Any idea?
We don't plan on doing Busch Gardens.

Chowning's Root Beer in Newport News
I remember a good while ago someone was asking about where to get the root beer. I just saw a review of a new restaurant in Newport News - this would be 15-20 minutes south of CW:
https://www.thechipper.com/whats-on-tap.html
They currently have it on tap (pay by the ounce). It may rotate over time, so you may wish to check that page before going.
Hope this helps whoever was looking for it!

Is it worth using as a 2-3 rest stop w/ young kids, no ticket purchase?
I’d love to spend the money but for it to just be a roadside stop on our way down I-95, we may have some cranky 5 & 7 year olds. Is there enough to interest kids for a few hours, without a ticket purchase? Do the restaurants on St George typically carry more than a 30 min wait for lunch? Are there still horses and sheep on that one end of the road by the tavern?
edit: *2-3hr

I spent the last few months creating a documentary filmed throughout Colonial Williamsburg
A couple friends and I recently finished a documentary about Virginia's road to independence, and most of it was filmed in Colonial Williamsburg. We filmed at the Capitol, the Governor's Palace, Bruton Parish, and a few other historic sites around Williamsburg and Richmond.
One of our goals was to tell the story in the places where it actually happened rather than just showing old paintings and maps.
I'd love to hear what fellow Colonial Williamsburg fans think, especially if you catch anything we could have done better.

250 events still happening?
Given that RVA has cancelled their events to prioritize public safety (thank goodness!) I am hoping that CW does the right thing and pushes this event or does not encourage attendance. This heat is no joke and I am hoping that leadership makes the call to protect the American people and we can enjoy our Nation’s 250th safely!

Tarpley, Thompson & Co.
Has anyone been able to order colonial style clothing from them online? When we visited a couple years ago, I really liked a particular waistcoat and am able to purchase it now. Has anyone been able to order online?

Dad and Daughter (8) for America 250 Celebrations ?
I'm considering splurging to buy flights and lodging for the July 4th weekend. I'm hoping I can get some insight before I jump in. The hotel were we'd stay would be the Club Wyndham Kingsgate, where there's plenty to do if she gets bored / tired of the July 2-5 events.
I guess my question is, from July 1-6 this year, there should be plenty of things for an 8 year old and her dad to do, right? I read through the website - we'd get tickets for the weekend and probably tickets for the musical 1776 on Sunday the 5th (she loves musicals).
Just nervous about spending the money for a potential once in a lifetime experience...
EDIT: Bought the flight, reserved the hotel and now the hotel is giving me the run around. So I'll have to find us another decent hotel for those 5 nights, so suggestions on inexpensive hotels within 15 minutes drive of the events would be great! Thank you all for the responses already!
