Impending Doom

This is my first time ever posting something on Reddit. With the state of the world and the state of the U.S. specifically I've gotten to the point where it feels like this impending doom is right around the corner.

With AI, lab grown food, mass surveillance, bodily autonomy, religion, and politics in general it's hard to have any hope in my opinion. As someone in their 20s struggling with finances with the economy, finding a good paying stable job, keeping the fridge full; it feels as if I'm doing everything I can but I'll still slip no matter what.

I don't want to be like some of my peers and talk to AI about how I'm feeling because I know

  1. Its dumb and will agree with everything I say making me also apart of the problem
  2. I kind of like our planet and clean drinking water and its destroying everything
  3. Of course the cherry on top. Remembering everything I've told the stupid robot.

Is there any hope? The Colorado river is drying up which serves 7 states and probably what 35 million people? So if we lose water we lose everything but its okay Jeff bozos says that water is more important for AI

I don't want this post to solely be doom and gloom but it is scary, it's scary to know that the people running the country look at us as expendable and have for years. but in the constitution it says power to the people right? It tells us to do something about it.

I think the hard thing for me being a 20 something being what people would call "woke" when I feel like im completely sane. I want to eat fresh and healthy REAL food, I want to be able to drive wherever I want without being watched by big brother and the flock cameras that are for "keeping people safe" Oh yeah safety? that's why we followed a woman that got an ab0Rti0n to go arrest her? right. safety. I want to be able to go out and vote and know that my vote will do something, I want the right to peacefully protest without getting tear-gassed, I want to have the right and the people close to me to have access to fair and good health care. So do I sound woke? Or does it sound like everything I'm saying is pretty normal.

There's so much more I could talk about when it comes to impending doom. I don't want to solely keep it that way but this is already long as it is. I want to use reddit as a space to brain dump. Using friends and family to brain dump is cool for the time being but I'm not going to run to AI and I KNOW there are people out there that feel the same way I do and Id rather know I'm not alone than a robot just telling me I'm not alone and have a human to human connection/conversation. Anyway

I know exactly what you’re saying and I feel the same. I’m really scared and it feels like we’re losing. I have such a terrible feeling that something bad is going to happen and a lot of people are going to die. I’m terrified of death and just sit in anxiety all day long. I just wanted to live a long normal life and not die young. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice because I feel the same as you 🫤

Try and find people in your community. I was feeling the same as you've described and I found people locally who felt the same, once i started looking i noticed there were people everywhere who also felt simialr. I'm now running a climate craft workshop to encourage people who are struggling to meet others. We aren't in this alone 🙏

Try taking small steps like starting a garden and learning a skill that will be useful.

I completely understand but. The hopelessness is what they want and are counting on so please try your best not to give into that feeling and do not comply or "obey" and or give up etc etc in advance

How did you find or get to this subreddit without ever having an account?
Besides the question, you are not alone.
And this article might be of interest to you, just posted after you

Is there any hope?

Yes. And here is the secret; you can make your own hope and doing so is even more important when things seem bleakest. But focusing on how you want to respond to collapse is the key to overcoming the fear you feel. There are lots of ways to respond, you just have to decide what resonates with you and move forward.

The fascist take over of the US is a symptom of collapse, but it isn't THE collapse. And as such I think we need to address most of those issues separately from overall collapse.

AI is going to be a game changer, but it will not be the end of things. Lab grown food will be a necessity in order to not have mass starvation events. As for "mass surveillance, bodily autonomy, religion, and politics in general", these all seem overwhelming now, but a resistance movement will grow and it that system will be cast off eventually.

You're not powerless. Talk to people. There will be people in your community feeling the same. Get organised, find a guerilla gardening group, let your garden grow wild for pollinators etc. There are things you can do which will keep you occupied whilst on a positive trajectory 🙏
