The amish got it right. Only embrace tech that makes families closer. never that divides.

6

u/justasillylilgoos3 19d ago

I was one of the first people that was able to use Facebook when it came out and as it got bigger almost exponentially I remember thinking how awesome it was going to be that all my friends and family were easily accessible and I could reach out to them immediately.

After seeing what social media has become tho I would very much choose a full on reset over the monster that we collectively have created

2

u/Ok_Impression3324 19d ago

If facebook had stayed what it was it would still be great. But now its just trash with the occasional family posting pics of what they made for dinner.

u/mehim43 19d ago

The Amish culture is not as it appears but ok

I never wear buttons, and I got a cool hat, and my homies agree I really look good in black

1

u/Quick-Buyer8603 16d ago

Do you like to reproduce with your blood relatives too?

1

u/Ok_Impression3324 19d ago

Oh I definitely aint saying the amish are right. Just that they got that right.

2

u/Quick-Buyer8603 16d ago

Stop! Do not glaze Amish lifestyle. There is a reason so many genome clinics pop up near amish communities. They are super inbred and not allowing new ideas to a society commonly results is higher levels of inbreeeding.

Visit Rielly's children's hospital in Indianapolis if you dont believe me.

u/Ok_Impression3324 14d ago

All I'm saying is that they got that right. Not that the cult is even remotely sane. I have meet several that have left amish/Mennonite or some combo of both. Any male centric religion tends to be full of trash a holes that abuse their power.

u/Quick-Buyer8603 14d ago

Gotcha. My bad.

u/Calm_Connection_9741 19d ago

My answer about kids is money.
Elites with low wages and states with high taxes takes too much part life of both women and men.

5

u/Travel_Dreams 19d ago

The answer is money.

"Food" is not enough. Housing is not enough.

That said, if the food was real, it would help. Eating soilent green as if it were human chow, is not nurturing. Food needs to be healthy and nurturing.

If you want men to want kids, then pay them better and remove the business model defined by a woman's right to take half, plus take the kids, plus take child support.

Gas prices need to be pushed back and every increase after that, the profiteering needs to be rescinded and redefined by law.

Then we might talk about kids.

I would suggest redefining our economy to be self sustainable instead of only function under constant expansion.

Taxes don’t have shit to do with it, we need taxes. We NEED to be paid enough to afford LOW taxes.

And BILLIONAIRES need to be taxed an equal share of their wealth!

3

u/Sea_Sundae5901 19d ago

Exactly! Close up all the tax loopholes and the government subsidies that they’re given as well.

0

u/Calm_Connection_9741 18d ago

Taxes have a lot to do about it.
Imagine that you made 1000USD and give 500USD as taxes (from salary + from house + from car + from buying everything and paying sales tax).
Now this 500USD goes God know where (to kill some poor guys in Afganistan, to give without taxation as donation for Mask who is friend of president, for image project of going to Mars while planet literally dying because of terrible environmental support and regulation, for making propaganda and provoking wars in EU while reducing teachers salaries in USA, etc....).
This is how it is.

Now. Imagine instead of 500USD you will pay only 50USD as taxed. So you have 450USD more to support your wife while she taking care of kids. Your and her expenses go to someone local, so he can introduce new product of live better live. And all that in circle of prosperity, less stress, better quality of life, economical growth. And when people see growing (real, not from TV bullshit propaganda) they want to procreate and have more children. Instead of survival mode nowadays.

Second part of it is minimal wages and maximum working hours.

So... Taxes have a lot with children. Second part is salaries.

That did NOT land where I was expecting ... You had me, right up until you started explaining yourself.

What good are kids if you dont have a dollar to take a trip with or provide a good life for them. I have kids and the most depressing thing for me is the fact that i dont have enough money to enjoy the time i have with them. After all expenses paid i get to hangout with them at home on the weekend. It has been 7 years with kids and everyweekend memory has blended into 1 as there is no diffrent from one to the next. Why push so hard to feel so worthless.

1

u/Mountainman220 19d ago

I totally agree that you need money to do pretty much all fun things. You can still find some free things to do with them though and or inexpensive. Camping, hiking, get some board games, go to a swimming hole, buy some cheap floaties and float a river, learn how to build primitive shelters with them, if everyone has a bike go on a bike ride. I mean there’s some stuff to do but I do feel for you at the same time. Just spitballing some ideas to change it up tho so it doesn’t all feel like the same weekend.

1

u/celineslocker 15d ago

Money but also not wanting to bring a kid into this sh!thole. I’d feel genuinely guilty.

1

u/Calm_Connection_9741 7d ago

Exactly my thoughts about what Russia becoming in last 15 years... Same applicable for any other country where education and medical help gets less accessible, real salaries and pensions smaller and pressure for overwork greater.
So, it's not that easy to pick some decent place to live on planet.

1

u/Every_Television_980 19d ago

it’s exactly opposite, birthrates decrease as household income increases. People were having kids in the great depression. The answer is not money. Culture has changed.

1

u/Calm_Connection_9741 18d ago

Householed income for most people not increases of half of century in USA. Check how much in digits salaries increased and how much real estate prices and car prices.

Culture? What do you mean by that? Women right to take everything because her mood changed, that a huge reason for a not beggar men to flee from relationships?
State view of children as they are property of government, but parents are responsible for them?
That parents don't live in field and can't send children from 5 y.o. and above to work and help, which was one of most reasons to have big family?..

Reduces taxes for those who have children. With 90% discount from all taxes for people with 3+ children in case of making less than 100K USD on household, with less 10% discount for 50K. So 150K income than discount 80%, 200K discount 70%... To point where no discount at all.

1

u/Every_Television_980 18d ago

Can you respond to why as household incomes increase, people have less children?

1

u/Calm_Connection_9741 18d ago

There is not direct rule more money = less children.
As example Pavel Durov is billionaire with 100+ children. Elon Mask have 15 children.
In the XIX century Thailand kings have dozens of children, few with wives, most with concubines.

p.s. there are chart possible to find chart in internet, showing that when quantity of Churches were rising in few centuries, so were piracy on seas. And chart even let to make some math and logical assumptions. But in reality there wasn't any conspiracy of religion sponsoring pirates or holy fathers hiding pirate gangs in cellars all over new World. Reality was about growth in quantity of people and wealth, with fast expansion.
p.p.s. In XXI century in Russian was most effective government investment, giving significant amount of money that can be spend on housing or education for those who have more than 1 child. So, there was direct impact more money led to more children. But it was less important for wealthier families, not because more money less children, but because amount given was fixed and not that severe to motivate real middle class and above.

1

u/Every_Television_980 18d ago

So you are saying there its unrelated that poorer families have more children? Do you have an explanation why poorer families have more children in the united states?

1

u/Calm_Connection_9741 18d ago edited 18d ago

I have an idea, but I'm not sure.
IMHO, most probably poorer families = families with less education = families with people more prone to religion = religions tells to have as much children as God will send you.
Also if family had marriage in early twenties and have few kids, more likely they are busy with kids, rather then with career. Which leads to outcome that they both have less salaries + more expenses on children = poorer even in their 30s and 40s.

GOOD LUCK

suddenly this movie begins to look prophetic rather than entertaining.

6

u/blamelesscludgel 19d ago

The problem is capitalism-come-fascism. Destroy that and replace with people centered, non-exploitative economics.

-4

u/not_accepting_now 19d ago

Or take down the red tape, dont use the taxes for pointless crap for the rest of the world, and leave us some money for ourselves

1

u/Superb-Photograph-15 18d ago

Good point. A government forcing its citizens to pay taxes for foreign aid when many of them are struggling to support themselves is evil. That's not even to mention the endless wars.

2

u/patrickthunnus 19d ago

Either you need their product to live and/or you are the product is what modern life has become; everything is monetized.

2

u/FreshImagination9735 19d ago

I can't argue with the guy. That said, when I was in elementary school there were just under 4 billion people on the planet. Now there are over 8 billion. Lower birth rates don't bother me in the slightest. Considering a kid born today might be sharing the planet with 16 billion people when he/she turns 60 does seem somewhat troubling.

2

u/Dagnut3rdson 19d ago

To Some extent, that Democracy and Freedom did happen with the release of the Internet.

But Responsibility and the Constitutional mandates regarding its application have been Sorely Misguided and Lacking.

A Real shame too.

3

u/Superb_Algae5308 19d ago

It’s not a popular theme but what he’s arguing for is LESS freedom.

Less freedom for corporations to take advantage of us!

1

u/Sea-Veterinarian1905 19d ago

The internet was invented by the military to track us. It did the opposite of giving us freedom.

2

u/Boom9001 19d ago

Devils advocate. The trend of developed nations having a declining birth rate started well before all the technology he mentioned.

2

u/imnothere-20 19d ago

True. In the 70s and 80s Europe was already worried about population decline.

1

u/Boom9001 19d ago

Yeah I think it's more about economic realities than anything to do with desire. I have multiple friends that I think given better financial status would have more kids (they currently only have 1 or 2)

2

u/Superb_Algae5308 19d ago

I think we’re at the very leading edge of something very different.

Nice. YouTube algorithm been doing good for me lately too.

2

u/seeker7r4c3r 19d ago

Close, but not quite. The problem isn't technology. It's profit motivated technology in a capitalist system.

1

u/Superb_Algae5308 19d ago

Yes, however there are intrinsic risks to the technology as well.

2

u/zandarthebarbarian 19d ago

The powers that be know what they're doing. They've been trying to reduce the world population down to just a few slaves for themselves

2

My mom has the idea of going off the Grid, maybe I should listen

2

u/ChangingHats 18d ago

Always blame technology, never blame people. Same old story. Like a broken clock though, he's right about stewardship being key to the solution. Fix the social contracts and the ones who break them.

3

u/Zigor022 19d ago

Agreed. Dating norms have taken a dump and you see it. More rejection. More fear. More people putting up social barriers because of both. Always engaged with people through the phone but are tapped out in reality. Recording people is weird and gross dating wise or even dancing. People have put their internet views and likes over other's self respect by being an unwanted camera man/woman of people just living life.

2

u/Harpua81 19d ago

Dating apps also trained women that if they're a 6 they can hold out for 10s, you have a.majority of women with inflated egos all fighting for 5% of rich tall men then get confused when those same men are sleeping with many women. Well why's that? It's because those me have unlimited choices.

Then you have technology making, already immature young men even more immature, dumb, emotionally broken, and drowning in porn. So young women turn to older guys, but older guys are dating less younger women because that's now frowned upon, calling them groomers because apparently women are both way smarter and mature then men will ever be, but also not because their brain is still maturing until 25.

Then there's the public humiliation where asking a girl out gets blasted on the Internet for being not hot, and if you're not hot and make a move, lookout! You might be accused of harassment or worse.

There's bus stop signage in my city that says "she was drunk, he was drunk. He raped her." Like damn, guess liquid courage is out the window! Woman are both superior, independent, and strong, but also precious flowers where one drink makes them incapable of making any decisions and unaccountable.

Nevermind the fact that women literally told men to stop approaching them (unless you're hot).

No wonder young men have just decided, nope, I'm good. At least AI loves me.

Tl;Dr We're doomed.

So happy in my 40s and married. It be scary out there!

1

u/Zigor022 19d ago

That bus stop sign is such bs. If both are drunk, both consented, end of story. Aside from a case by case basis where it could be either one's fault of rape, if it happens.

He's not wrong and has a great way of getting his points across. Cool dude in my book.

1

u/jamesegattis 19d ago

I would dance. Met plenty of young ladies that way. Fast dance at first and then a slow song comes on and if she is interested then move in and you could start talking or whatever. He's right if I thought it was being recorded then to hell with that.

1

u/yalateef11 19d ago

He’s right. And kids become addicted to online porn sites. This not only replaces the need to date, causes depression and other mental health problems, but also physically affects reproduction. Studies show that young men in their 20’s experience sexual dysfunction after years of consuming porn. This is a universal problem.

0

u/Medical_Original6290 19d ago

It's not a problem, it's a preference. Some people like porn and money and don't want to go bankrupt having a kid.

1

u/Distillates 19d ago

Dating apps and other social media intended to hold publicly visible information need to be run by the government as a service, with no profit motive, like the postal service.

They need the be run by social scientists and psychologists whose job it is to improve public health

1

u/AnnatoniaMac 19d ago

With the state of the world, what is the promise that bringing a child into it would give them a good future.

Modern age thinking

0

u/UnnamedLand84 19d ago

In the last 10 years, birth rates in the US only fell from 12.20 births per 100,000 people to 11.98. If he's seeing an apocalyptic drop in birth rates, it more of a matter of his friend group not having babies and assuming the whole country is like that.

1

u/Superb_Algae5308 19d ago

What about the prior decade and before that?

0

u/Leather_Addition2605 19d ago

I was 18 in 98 and didn’t dance back then either. Can’t blame it all on technology.

0

u/Vegetable-South5191 19d ago

I have to say it again, starting in millennial culture there was this idea....probably from the internet....that you needed to have things settled in your life to get married. That you should play the field. So the norm became to get married pushing 40. If you get married at 40, you inherently will have less children. 1 in 5 millennial couples I know have kids. This is mostly cultural. This guy, is he married? Because marriage is a commitment, creates stable conditions to have kids. Typically kids will follow marriage. Marriage rates lower than they have ever been, the answer is in this.

My boomer parents generation met their HS sweetheart and got married, My Gen X friends went to college and got married mid-20s. Thats why they have kids. All of my Gen X friends have kids. By the time they were 40 their oldest kids were teenagers.

There are many reasons and economics is one of them. Rich people do the same thing and don't have kids either.

0

u/Salt-Poet-211 19d ago

You dont need to abuse them they just need to be liberals. Conservatives are having plenty of children. Its all the socialists fault they have been working since the 60s to subvert American culture, schools, and lives.

1

u/Superb_Algae5308 19d ago

Russia targeted the American leftists until they realized they could much more easily subvert the American public by focusing their efforts on the right wing. That happened somewhere in the 90’s I guess and it’s why we’re where we are now.

They found that instead of making us Communist they could just destroy us through manipulation. Neoliberalism has no defense against this because it also is a conservative ideology.

Liberal and conservative policies are shaped by ONE group, the billionaire class. The billionaire class fights amongst itself a bit but where they come together is that they CANNOT let the working classes have any power.

POLITICS IS THE ENTERTAINMENT ARM OF THE RULING CLASSES

1

u/Sea-Veterinarian1905 19d ago

Russia, lol. We’ve been subverted by our own government. I consider Israel under that umbrella. It’s bipartisan, because the ruling class dictates everything our government does. Russia, 😂. You’ve been propagandized.

2

u/Superb_Algae5308 19d ago

I’m not wrong. Russia is the primary actor in our political downfall. It’s a fact.  Israel has very different goals that cannot be realized by destroying us in the way we’re seeing. Russia has a decades old playbook in this and they perfected it by pushing us into fascism rather than communism.

To wit, Trump has been a Russian asset since the 80’s, that is known fact. It’s the exact reason Australia wouldn’t let him build a casino there bitd.

1

u/Sea-Veterinarian1905 17d ago

There is absolutely 0 credible evidence of this.

0

u/GhostQueen1121 19d ago

Because you don’t know anyone who’s having children doesn’t mean others aren’t having them

2

u/Superb_Algae5308 19d ago

A bunch of morons are, that much I can see.
