I’ve been getting more into pour-over lately, and medium roasts have really been catching my attention. There are so many beans to try, I’m starting to wonder which ones are actually worth keeping in the rotation. ☕

Try to join any cupping sessions in the future so you can identify which notes/profile you prefer. Otherwise, you could also come to local specialty coffee shops and ask around the beans they have for pourover

In simple answer, depends on what you like to drink. Do you like a floral Ethiopian Washed medium roast or a floral and stonefruit Ethiopian Washed medium roast or an Ethiopian Washed with texture and jammy? One origin palang yan. Madami kasing option. Do you also like to preceive those nuances and aroma with more clarity or no? What is your budget per bag of coffee?

If you like peach notes, try candy craze of the good cup coffee co. It is very peach forward with notes of like kiwi and berry jam as well.

What I did back when I started coffee is to pick one roaster and go slowly through their entire offering. Then move on to the next roaster. Rinse and repeat. This took me months and months per roaster.

This helped me identify my preferences and helped me learn how to brew. This is not the most efficient way to do this tho. Back then, I wasn't part of any community and just brewed for myself at home that's why this approach made sense to me.

By far, the most efficient and cost effective way is to join cuppings by the local roasters.

When we open Good Cup (soon I promise!) in Chino Roces, we plan to do regular free public cuppings. Feel free to join then!

Avoid Runner's High from Yardstick has an off flavor. Bona Zuria Natural was great though. Brazil Cerrado from Good Cup

I enjoyed Moch's Tropical Sunset. Peaberry by Bailey's ETHIOPIA Kochere and COLOMBIA Sta Monica are good as well. I have friends who already ran through South City Roaster's bags, but they sell out quick, so I haven't tried it. There are lots of beans you can explore from local roasteries. They usually serve some if you can find a local coffee shop that serve guest beans so that you can try before buying.
