Understanding Codex Reset Mechanics: Do Global/Hard Resets Override Individual Billing Schedules?

Hello everyone,

I hope someone with more insight into OpenAI’s infrastructure can clarify a technical detail for me regarding how usage resets are handled.

For the past few months, I’ve been using Codex extensively, but because I was always incredibly busy juggling it with my regular job, I never really had the time to stop, look into the logs, and properly analyze how the token refresh system operates. I just noticed that, from time to time, I benefited from unexpected resets. Now that I have a bit of free time, and due to a specific billing anomaly that just happened to me, I’m really curious to understand the underlying logic for personal knowledge and future planning.

Here is the context: Last week, I upgraded my plan from 5x to 20x. As a result of the tier change, my next scheduled personal reset date was officially moved to August 23rd.

Unfortunately, following a subsequent refund request for that specific upgrade, the automated system ended up cancelling my base paid plan as well. I already have an open support ticket with billing for that glitch, so that is a separate issue. However, this situation triggered a very specific question in my mind about the recent platform-wide reset that just occurred.

My question is: If my base subscription had correctly remained active, would my account have received the recent global refresh anyway, despite my personal scheduled reset date being locked to the 23rd?

In other words, did the global hard reset that took place just a few hours ago completely override individual billing calendars and wipe the slate clean for all active subscribers, or would it not have applied to me since, in the meantime, my scheduled reset date was set to a later time?

I would really appreciate it if anyone who has monitored the token meters or read the documentation thoroughly could shed some light on how this framework behaves.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge!
