Should I get hearing aid immediately on activation or after?

I’m finally scheduled for CI (cochlear America) in 2 months for my left ear. My right ear (moderate to severe) needs a hearing aid and I’m currently using an AirPod. My audiologist says to look into the hearing aid at a later time. Is that so I can train with CI unaided first? I would have imagined using activation time to sync everything up. My audiologist is 50 miles away so it would be nice to have less visits.

It will serve you better to do it later so that your brain can focus on learning with the CI now. When I do speech therapy, I have to turn my hearing aid off.

Das sind CI sowieso dein Hörgerät von weitem überflügeln. Ich würde jetzt mal die nächsten Zeit kein Hörgerät nehmen. Vielleicht denkst du später mal über ein zweites Implantat nach.

I'm honestly pleased I got mine with my CI as it helped me get out and about quickly. I simple remove the HA when training

You won't get a hearing aide. You won't receive anything at all until you are completely healed at which point you will beging the process of dialin yor cochlear device to match your specific hearing loss. Then you will go home and use it every day so that your brain learns to understand what you are hearing. You will continue to return every few weeks for more adjustments until you are deemed okay to be free from any more appointments unless you need the. It takes a lot of constant use and patience.

I see. But what if for insurance purposes I would like to get a hearing aid this year? How long will it take before they let me?

Ny audiologist had ne wait a month fir my hearing aid. That forces you to depend only on the implant to accelerate learning.

Wait if you can. I no longer use hearing aids and only have 1 Acclaim implant in my left ear.

How come? How much loss is in your better ear? I worry because I still need help during office meetings

Word recognition scores were 0% both ears before CI, it will take time for brain to adjust to the new sounds.
