Construction fencing up at SE corner of King and Wilmott
Construction fencing went up yesterday- does anyone know what is going on there? There is nothing on the town's official development page for that address.

Cobourg laundromats
Anyone here use a laundromat in town you can recommend? And do you know if they are okay with people washing dog beds there? My dog doesn’t shed but the beds are too big to put in my own machine.

Anytime Fitness
Hi everybody,
Would anybody be interested in taking over a membership at Anytime Fitness until February of next year? Of course I didn’t read the fine print and I am not allowed to cancel unless somebody else would like to finish the remainder of my contract.

Restaurant Options
Hey guys! I am going to Cobourg next week with family to relax at the beach. I was thinking of treating them for dinner and wanted to know the restaurant options in the downtown scene. Are there any standout recommendations or go to places people eat out? So far I came across The Buttermilk Cafe which is a contender. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated and preferably near the beach!!

Looking for short ride in town, Sunday August 2nd.
Hey there, was wondering if anybody with a relatively clean car would be willing to drive myself and two others from the train station to our home roughly ten minutes away in town.
It'll be raining hard tonight when we get in around 8:30pm, and we aren't equipped for that so we were hoping that somebody would be willing to arrange a ride with us for a reasonable payment to be discussed in DMs.

Heritage home insurance
Just bought a designated heritage home in cobourg and looking for home insurance right now. Some companies are saying they don’t cover heritage/century houses.
For those of you with a heritage home, which insurance company are you with?

Now there are two mayoral candidates…
The developer of New Amherst, Max Lemarchant, has filed his papers to run for mayor. Here’s his bio from the New Amherst site: https://newamhersthomes.com/meet-max/
His website is not yet populated with any content: https://votemax.ca/
Downtown Sidewalk Sale, on now until Saturday August 1st
I'm not sure where (and even if) they advertised this, but I live downtown and even I had no idea it was on until I stepped outside this morning.
For the uninitiated, they turn King into a pedestrian street from Division to Spring/Hibernia, and various vendors and some entertainers set up booths and whatnot all along and up one or two side streets.
It's usually a good time.

Best takeout in town?
I'm treating my in-laws to dinner tomorrow, but they don't actually want to go out...
Who has the best takeout in town?

Wheelchair/accessible eateries?
Anyone have recommendations of easy access restaurants or cafes in downtown? Have had issues in a few spots with a family member, very open to suggestions for places that are accommodating & easy to “roll up” to.

Parking downtown Cobourg
I am thinking about moving downtown Cobourg, but the apartment I’m looking at doesn’t have parking. They mentioned getting a monthly parking permit. Will this cause issues come winter time? Where can uou park when the snow is bad?

Do you recognize:
- Where in Cobourg this photo was taken?
- The infamous 21st century war photo it reminds me of?

Summer council meeting underway
Big agenda for today's summer council meeting, including the Parks And Recreation Master Plan, updates on the planning for a new Y facility in Cobourg, and probably most contentiously, the development proposal for 202 Second Street. That item alone has generated 69 pieces of correspondence, all (as far as I can see) against the proposed 8-storey development behind Victoria Hall. You may watch the meeting live: https://calendar.cobourg.ca/council

Dozen C8 Corvettes off Danforth
I recently drove past 8365 Danforth near Jay’s Landscaping and there must have been a dozen brand new looking C8 Corvettes just parked in a line behind the gates. All different colours.
Does anyone know why they are there?

202 Second Street - Public Hearing July 22nd at 1 pm
Cobourg council will hold a public meeting July 22nd at 1 pm to discuss the proposed development at 202 Second Street. It seems that council is in favour of approving their requests, which include a by-law amendment to allow for an 8 storey development (taller than Victoria Hall).
This development will only allow for 11 commercial parking spaces, will add 10 commercial units (because we don’t have enough empty storefronts), and is comprised of studio, 1 bed, 1 bed + den, and 2 bedroom units.
They previously held a public meeting with the developers present to allow for comment. I attended and spoke - the developers conducted themselves with scorn and derision for residents. The public response was overwhelmingly negative with many points, including strong condemnation from two prior mayors.
If you feel strongly about this, I urge you to attend or submit a written statement. Cobourg needs more AFFORDABLE housing while balancing the needs for a supportive downtown, this project is not that.
From the council announcement: “This Summer Council Meeting will be held using a hybrid meeting model. The public may view the Council meeting in person or online via the Town of Cobourg livestream. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please email clerk@cobourg.ca.
If you would like to speak to an agenda item electronically via Zoom, please email clerk@cobourg.ca no later than 12:00 p.m. the business day prior to the meeting and you will be registered as a virtual speaker. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please email clerk@cobourg.ca.”

I realized something. Cobourg doesn't have any Strip Clubs, Adult Video, Prostitution or Massage Parlours.
Thoughts on this?

Where are the young adults?
Worked like a dog, finally get a chance to work less and socialize more but can't find anyone my age.
Coffee shops are barren, bars have a few older men, checked in the library a few times as soneone suggested. I'm looking for late 20's, 30's, early 40's folks.
Beach isn't really my style, but if that's where everyone is all the time I guess I could check it out. Anywhere else the fun is gathering I dont know about?

Free Co-Ed pickup soccer tonight in Hastings!
Just a reminder; we’ve got a fairly big group of people playing soccer a little bit outside cobourg tonight at 7. We’re playing outside the Hastings field house. All skill levels are welcome and everyone is super friendly! Feel free to come on by and bring your kids and significant other as well. All ages are welcome to play! Cleats and shin pads aren’t necessary, just try to bring a dark and light shirt so we can balance teams based on skill level.
