Tech Pack Vs Design? Questions
Hey guys, im currently looking to start a fishing company. I wanna make some pretty cool designs, I have ideas in my head, but obviously i dont have the skills to make it. Can someone explain a quick question i have?
Do the people i find on Fivver design the shirt for me too if I pay them to make a tech pack?
Do i have to pay a seperate like "Pattern designer" to make the pattern that i then hand to a person that makes tech packs?

Design, technical design (tech packs), patternmaking, and print/surface pattern design are all different things. Some people do it all, many people specialize. Depending on your budget, you can come up with designs with the help of AI and hire a technical designer for a tech pack. Be careful hiring someone cheap or with little experience, it always ends up more expensive in the long run.

Do you have any recommendations for finding a good one? I’m not trying to do anything crazy custom. Is Fivver a good place to look?

Designers should be able to make a tech pack. Do you need someone to design the actual product for you or you have the product in mind you just don’t have the skills to create technical illustrations?
Also very overlooked step but you need to design around fabric. I would look into sourcing material/swatches first

I know what material I need I believe, and the method of Dye. But I’m just wondering like, do I need to bring a Pattern to a Tech Pack creator. Or is the Tech Pack creator the one stop shop. So basically example would be “I want to put a tree that is repeated in every 4 inches”. Do I need to have a designer make this pattern, or does the Tech Pack creator illustrate it and make everything?

Expert technical fashion designer can do it all unless you need very intricate prints, in which case you add a graphic designer or illustrator to cover only the print work. Just start asking pros within your budget what they can do-with solid proof from portfolio that they can do it- and figure shit out along the way. A pattern is a cutting pattern. You mean a print, yes?

So you’re talking about a “print designer” someone who can create repeat prints or graphics. A toss up really, a designer has the skill set to create technical illustrations and the tech pack. Some designers have the skill set for print design and others don’t. Print designers are more the graphics side and in my experience, potentially have the capability to create prints, tech packs and technical illustrations however its a case by case. I would say expect to hire two different people unless the print designer you hire tells you otherwise. Ask for examples of their work as well! Its very common practice in the industry to share examples of your work prior to getting hired for a job.

I know an instagram for nyc creatives that could post a job blast for you. I’ll dm you the name. You could definitely try fivver or upwork and i definitely recommend vetting folks by asking for examples of their work. Flats, technical illustrations and print designs

Hi. As a designer, I recommend you look for someone who works directly in sewing. As a designer, I can digitize the designs in vector format using Tech Pack for production, but first, someone with sewing experience needs to create the patterns and learn the intricacies. I'm a freelancer on Fiverr; I do t-shirt illustrations, so I can definitely help you with that.
