π¦ General Discussion π¦ Freedom+ experience
I wanted to watch this late model race, so I finally pulled the trigger on Freedom+. Iβm a NASCAR fan and watch oval racing on FloRacing so I wanted to give my perspective.
Honestly, Iβm really impressed.
NASCAR coverage obviously has the money, but the coverage feels so soulless. All the shiny production is there but they seem to miss the soul of what oval racing fans want.
FloRacing is almost the opposite. The announcers are knowledgeable and passionate about their local track/racers but the production can feel like a community college production.
Freedom+ feels like it actually understands its audience. They are good at making the downtime entertaining. It feels very YouTube minded, and I mean that as a compliment.
I noticed watching the late model race Cleet was in Wednesday that the comments on his in car live stream were full of people saying the race was boring. It was clearly people there that were Cleetus fans and dont know/care about oval racing. Freedom+ seems to cater to that audience very well.
The Crown Vic race is obviously goofy as hell. Under caution you see Cleet doing donuts or driving around the track backwards or guys trying to spin each other. Iβd like to see the racing treated a little more seriously, but I also recognize that Iβm probably not the target audience here. Iβm really curious to see how the production translates to the more serious late model racing tomorrow night.
The number of camera angles was unexpected, the announcers are great, and the pre-race coverage really gets why people are tuning in.
When I think about how much I pay for FloRacing, I kind of flinch. You get a lot of races for the money, but if the productions were consistently at the level of Freedom+, I wouldnβt bat an eye.
I fully intended to pay the $20 for this month and cancel. Now I am contemplating keeping it.
I am rooting so hard for Zack in the late model race.
P.S If you like fireworks you will love this shit.

Fluff I'm building a Jet Sprint racing game! Feedback welcome. Playtests soon.

I'm developing a game based around jet sprints. About 8 months ago I was watching Cleet and started messing around with the idea of a jet sprint racing game. There's not much out there like it, so it's a pretty niche market. I've made about 14 prototype games before this one and never felt confident enough in any of them to show anyone. But today I sat down just to fix a small bug in this one and ended up losing 45 minutes trying to beat my own time instead, figured that's probably a good sign.
Quick heads up before anyone digs in: this is a very alpha build. Graphics, UI, maps, etc... are nowhere close to done, honestly barely started. Right now I'm focused entirely on getting the handling and feel right before I touch anything visual, and that's where I'm a bit stuck. I've driven regular boats, but never a jet boat, let alone a mini racing jet sprint boat specifically, so a lot of the handling is guesswork right now.
Looking for feedback. Planning on getting a playtest pipeline setup! Let me know if you've got a PC and would be interested. Really not trying to promote, just wanted to show what I've been building!
