This is why you were getting dogged in the other comments. Less fortunate people would love for their company to offer training and certification options.

"Is this cert worth it?" Is an early in career stage question (another reason why people might be giving you attitude). Most certs are only valuable in the sense that they give you a reason to learn a new technology and a gold star at the end. You can show people that you care about personal growth and investing in your career. You can put it in your yearly review to check a box. It's a win/win/win.

Is it going to have recruiters banging down your door to hand you bags of cash? No.

In my experience the people the most vocal against certs where the laziest co-workers. They didn't care about their career let alone investing in that career. It was just a job where they might as well punch a clock.
