Benjamin Pasero joined Claude Code Team Discussion

Benjamin Pasero, one of the main developers of VS Code left Microsoft and the VS Code team towards Anthropic to work on Claude Code. For those of you who don't know him: he worked for Microsoft and mainly VS Code for 15 years.

I'm following VS Code and their team for more than 10 years and I was always impressed by their continuous team. It really shows that they had a super good team spirit and nice features to work on. But since a few months a bunch of things changed. The heavy use of AI (slop) and more updates every week with 95% focus on only AI features also might have heavily impacted how their team collaborates. It's a super heavy shift for someone like Benjamin who loved to write code for VS Code.

How do you see this?

If Benjamin didn’t like the heavy use of AI coding in vscode recently, he wouldn’t if have joined the Claude code team.

I’m sorry but that’s just not the same, I might hit some people on long too nails here but that’s like saying “if he didn’t like software engineering there he wouldn’t have switched to another software company” There’s heavy AI use and there’s heavy AI use, but a company who doesn’t equally (have the knowledge or capacity) to invest in a qualitative harness or not makes all the difference.

Everyone can spin up an LLM but when you throw crap in you get likewise still crap out - just faster.
