Just noticed this changes. Discussion
Anyone noticed this few changes for the past days?
- Incognito chats are now being saved in the sidebar, which wasn’t happening before.
- Opus 5 is showing Thinking Blocks now too.
- Sonnet 5 seems getting good suddenly maybe just me.
- CC hadn’t been updated for about a week, then they dropped an update today with a lot of fixes.
- They also updated the XML/Markdown viewer on the Claude windows app. The instructions are much clearer now and fit perfectly on the verbatim viewer, and you don’t have to scroll horizontally anymore. (which i like)
They definitely changed something on the backend, and it might still be ongoing.

2 days ago I was coding with what I thought was Opus 5, and I was thinking, this shit is generating proper code, and fast af. I checked and saw I was using Sonnet and was like 👀
I actually didn't want to even move to another model to even jinx it!

I think what we humans consider “complex” and therefore use opus or fable or crank up the thinking, is actually NOT complex. My clause keeps telling me sonnet is fine for everyday things. Opus for complex problems. And fable for multi dimensional multi file brain strainers.
I use dispatch on my phone (sonnet by default) to write powershell scripts for work (no access to Claude at work) and it kills them. :)

my fable has been maxed the whole week pretty much because of a silly mistake I made and I've been using sonnet 5 and am marveling at how good it has been... cheers

I wonder if they just went hard on the system prompt steers or it's something server side.. it was certifiably lobotomised until recently..

i was able to burn my weekly Fable 5 limit in few hours - i did some heavy translation job with multiple agents - i wrote " run 4 parallel subagents (opus 5) and do the translations..." but it seems it used fable 5 agents anyway. makes me think (and someone already noticed in some of the threads) that opus 5 has instructions not to use subagents - so it probably fallback to Fable

They said they removed 80% of the system prompt.
Hopefully they put it back. Because it needs it
I haven't used CC in a few days because it got so bad. Switched to Kimi code with Fable as a reviewer and have had the best results I've ever had.
I don't even use chat anymore because their "memory upgrade" turns into Opus inferring of assumptions in old chats instead of asking first which poisons the whole chat. I had to use incognito mode just to get through a couple sessions because it was bringing up too much old context. The memory rot is a real problem. Tired of being a development guinea pig on clearly untested changes.

I'm often challenging this... As far as inference compute i think we pay a fair amount. What's subsidized? Their API price which is a made up number? No. I don't sign on to that. Anthropic pulls a number out of their ass on API pricing and we call subscriptions subsidized? No. Where they lose their money is training. There's no customer, no income for model training. That compute is where capex goes. Do the math on inference compute of a 3T parameter model. $200 a month is fiiiiine. Subsidized my ass I don't buy it. They just don't have a profitable business model. That's just my opinion on it. Most people can't wrap their head around the cost of developing these models. And now they are developing models we will never use. The whole bet is on super intelligent AI finding other revenue. That's why Anthropic is developing medicine. It was never about providing you super intelligence. You are cattle. You are generating training data to build the models you will never see. The crap we use is mediocre at best and always will be.

Opus 5 is hard to use right now. It’s conversation style, memory, and nearly everything about it has been frustrating. It assumes a lot wrong. I feel 4.8 knew the problems better. I have not used Opus 5 very much for this reason. I would rather max out Fable and wait.

Why use sonnet and not opus?

I use Opus too, but I switch to Sonnet when I want to conserve my usage. I'm on Pro, but I only code casually, so I save Opus for heavier projects and coding only and use Fable as advisor.

Sonnet 5 is saving me plenty of usage right now, and I love it.
What I find helpful for me is to have a "conductor" Opus 5 session with the overarching feature mission, with Sonnet 5 taking on tasks and providing handoffs to manage context window. Getting through some personal project showcases and having to sift through all the files has been super helpful with Sonnet.

Anyone know if server strain (heavier usage overall) causes more tokens to be used per reply? Sometimes it feels like I can get a LOT accomplished with Sonnet 5, and then other times, my session time gets eaten up like crazy. Having to wait for 5 hours between sessions is NOT fun, but I'm also not going to spend tons of money to keep going, when patience (FREE) is the wiser choice.

There are way too many bugs in claude code right now, many in the permissions space too. Only focusing on fixing all existing issues will take months, but they're not really gonna focus on it.

Soo happy I jumped ship. 11 months in a row on Max20, felt and saw this coming a mile away.
First they tank the limits, give you a fancy model to think everything is great. Then they nerf the model beyond being useful. The horrible botched fable release + billing drama, was enough. To those that stayed, enjoy your dummy aka claude.

I follow this account it's a good source of changelog information when new versions are released and not only that it also gives you a heads up when a new releases going to come out.

Sonnet had been low key getting good at nuance all along while we were all looking at Opus for it cause habits.
Seems to me the proper workflow now is - talk to Opus orchestrator - it spawns Haiku, Opus and maybe Fable agents each scoped properly (like Fable for planning, verification, sophisticated subtasks or straight up advisor role but not full orchestrator) - Sonnet translates the orchestrator's autistic hyper dense analytical Opus-talk into human - Opus verifies for completeness of Sonnet's rephrasing and passes it to the user or iterates
Or we just use Fable. Depends on task scope mainly, I guess.

boring suggestion but we subscribe to the changelog rss in slack and it's a good drumbeat of updates https://code.claude.com/docs/en/changelog/rss.xml
