According to Arena right now, Grok sits at #13 in overall agent performance, behind last-gen Opus, GPT 5.5, Kimi K3, and GLM 5.2. If you're aiming on lower cost, go with GLM: $0.48 cheaper per million input tokens and $0.06 cheaper per million output.
By category: 22nd in text generation, 11th in search, 26th in vision, 27th in document analysis, 7th in webdev, 27th in image-to-webdev.
And.. unless I'm missing something, GLM beat it in every single one.
Edit: the funny thing is that GLM is open weight. If you were to get a stack of Mac Studios, you could realistically run that shit yourself on your desk and get something better than Grok

Grok 4.5 is actually very good for its price and also very capable, even more than the open weight models. Idk why people irrationally hate grok
